Music played before the Boro match

Motorhead and the full Middlesbrough music playlist
19 August 2006

Reading made a winning start to their Premiership campaign, and if you liked what you heard today pre-match, the full playlist is below. And was that really Motorhead that the players ran out to?!

Royals fans must have been wondering what hit them just before the players entered the field when a blast of heavy metal shook the Madstad sound system! Well, we can now reveal just why.

A mere 30 minutes before kick-off, Back the Boys received a CD direct from Wally Downes in the home dressing room and a note that the enclosed track is what the players wanted to run out to. At the time we had no idea what the players had chosen until a preview play of the CD revealed Motorhead! Wow, that'll shake the stadium to it's foundations..and no doubt scare a few of the younger fans too! Sure enough it did.

We'll aim to find out which player had the final say, and some of the choices that didn't make it to the PA room!

Today's Pre-Match Playlist

The Professionals (TV Themes)

Live Forever (Oasis)

A Hard Day's Night (The Beatles)

There's No Other Way (Blur)

Won't Get Fooled Again (The Who)

Everyone's A Winner (Hot Chocolate)

No tomorrow (Orson)

Somebody Told Me (The Killers)

Thats my goal (Shayne Ward)

Wishing I Was Lucky (Wet Wet Wet)

Take Me Out (Franz Ferdinand)

Michael Caine (Madness)

A Girl Like You (Edwyn Collins)

Suddenly I See (KT Tunstall)

Pump It Up (Elvis Costello)

The Hindu Times (Oasis)

Beep (Pussycat Dolls)

I Predict A Riot (Kaiser Chiefs)

Royals Anthem (Kevin Girdler)

FA Premier League Anthem (Yver Kaneever)

The Game (Motorhead)

Is that like a drunk Evel Knievel?

BTW-can the team come out the Undertaker's theme tune against Citeh? They could turn off all the flodlights and appear in the middle of the pitch

I thought it was a little out of the ordinary and for someone that doesn't like 'rock', I liked it.

Come on - it was just pure shite. Most people around me were just sort of wondering WTF? THis is Reading -not Milwall - and it seemed to attempt to indicate how 'hard' the club and players are when we are patently not. Nor do we need to be.

So what would you have done? Told Wally Downes to get stuffed and refuse to play it?

At the end of the day it was a request from the players.

Indeed, and coincidence or not, the atmosphere was the best we've experienced at our new home. You could say the stadium was 'rocking'.

More Motorhead! More rock!

Cambridge United used to play Rage's Killing In The Name Of ... as their walk out music.

And you know that how? The song could be what they listen to to pump themselves up in the dressing room and as such wanted to be played as they entered the stadium.

I always thought Serpent sky by JJ72 would be a good tune to play just before kick off which is along the same lines as Motorhead. I thought it actually sounded good.

On a related note, I wouldn't mind getting a copy of the heavy version of Lux Aeterna.

If someone could point me to a corner of the internet ...

No, but have a look at the WWE website as it's the intro music for HHH. So you might find it there.

Time to play the game!
(weird laughing)

(laughing)

It's all about the game
And how you play it
All about control
And if you can take it
All about ya debt
And if you can pay it
It's all about pain
And who gonna make it

I am the game
You don't wanna play me
I am control
No way you can shake me
I am heavy debt
No way you can pay me
I am the pain
And I know you can't take me

Look ova ya shoulda
Ready to run
Like a good little bitch
From a smokin' gun
I am the game
And I made the rules
So, move on out
Or, you can die like the fool
Try to figure out what the move's gonna be
Come on over, sucka
Why don't you ask me
Don't you forget there's a price you can pay
Cause I am the game and I want ta play

Time to play the game

(laughing)

Time to play the game!

It's all about the game
And how you play it
It's all about control
And if you can take it
It's all about ya debts

I am control
There's no way you can shake me
I am your debt
And I know you can't pay me
I am your pain
And I know you can't take me

Play the game
You're gonna be the same
You're gonna change ya name
You're gonna die in flames

(laughing)

Time to play the game!

Time to play the game

Time to play the game

Time to play the game

(laughing)

I've listened to this song a couple of times. If they upped the volume this song is such a great song to run onto the pitch with. Way better than star wars or something so cliched like that.

Certainly gets me ready to play the game.

So, what position did you play Saturday? Right back (in the dressing room)?

It boosted the atmosphere and the players wanted it so fair enough.
