Darlington Carling Cup tie

by riverroyal » 05 Sep 2006 10:27

Does anyone know why the club are still not selling the tickets yet for the Darlington Cup match.

Im not too bothered myself because I will go anyway, but, considering the draw was 10 days ago and the match is 14 days away you would have thought the tickets would have been on sale by now.

Obviously it is going to be a very low gate, probably our lowest of the season and surely by not even selling the tickets will make the matter worse.

I'm hoping it's being delayed as they won't need time when they give STHs a free ticket

Just like I'm hoping to win the lottery this weekend

Probably haggling with Darlo over price I would imagine. Anything more than a fiver and I'm not going, I think that should be the absolute maximum for ST holders as it is not going to appeal to anyone else.

Then I can envisage less than 7000 there

What's the lowest we've had at the Mad for one of these games? 5k against Orient?

I reckon it'll be around that.

Think it was considerably less than that for an LDV match (different comp though), no doubt someone wil return with the figures??

Hardly a glamour tie is it?

Reading deserve to get a decent crowd, after all 7,000 wanted to see us play at Highbury. It will give everyone who cant normally go due to the expense/not able to get tickets to go

I don't agree with the the logic of fans not turning out for cup matches like these. We should easily win this match so it is a good opportunity to see some virtuoso performances from our own players. On the other hand if we lose then you would be witness to a giant killing historical event.

Hmm, away versus Arsenal in their last season at Highbury, or home versus Darlington. Not quite the same.

In a world with unlimited free time and money, you'd have a point. As it is we all make choices in life, and for some Darlington at home in the Carling Cup isn't one of them.

My seat will be available.

Seen us play Darlo enough times already.

Plus already gone over budget for the season.

You should go to support your team no matter who they are playing just because we're in the prem now doesnt mean the team doesnt need our support against smaller teams

To be honest though, there are other things I'd much rather do on a Tuesday night than watch Reading reserves v Darlington.

And I'd refer you to the very valid point that Magnus made re limited money and time.

Poor old Sir Steve isn't the only one having to operate under budgetary constraints!

RFC (the club rather than the team) don't need your support they just need your money - they're a business after all. I'd rather keep mine in my pocket then go and watch the Quakers, but then I haven't been to watch the royals for over five years so this was never going to be the tie to end my dry spell.

Frankly there must be few things I wouldn't rather be doing than watch said tie.
