Seeing as so much money is being spent on Reading train station, is this project still on?

The two projects are not inter-related. The Reading Station area works are all about capacity on the Great Western Main Line, involving significant changes to the railway infrastructure, whereas Green Park is a developer-financed station built alongside the existing route with no alterations to railway infrastructure required.

Presumably Green Park station is off the agenda until further notice, i.e. until such time as the housing market rises sufficiently to justify building the houses which the station is meant to serve.

Thats Green Park Village. The Kennet Valley/meadow plan is dead in the water

It will always be maintained that the station is still going ahead, in order to attract tenants to Green Park and I'm sure it will be built eventually. An amended application for Green Park Village has been submitted, due for a decision by December, maybe then we will finally get some definite news.

Yes, financial. Since the South Reading housing development has been scaled down it can not be justified

Makes sense - it was only ever there to serve the houses, not the football. Reduce the number of houses and the justification goes away.

No it wasn't! I went to the presentation of it. It was for the company's at Green Park and the football just as much as the housing development. We are not in the Prem now, crowds go down, expansion on hold- less traffic on roads and the business park has A LOT of empty offices..

So you're only right with the Financial part.

I went to the presentation too - surely the companies are still there, so why arent they still implementing it?

Companies are still there correct but they expected more to move in. Hasn't really happened.

I seem to remember that the Reebok has its own station, though there is a cinema/retail park there. There's also Kennet Island within walking distance and the hotels. Seems to me it would get enough use...

Yeh I struggle to believe it can't be worth it - we're not talking building a new line here just an additional halt. A fairly basic construction (let's think Winnersh Triangle) can't cost more than a few grand to put up, surely?
