Yeah, it was about that, somewhere between £5 - £6 but for what it was I didn't think it was great value.

And what was it? A return bus service from Basingstoke via Tadley? What were you expecting?

Something other than a 25 year old bus that could actually run on time.

The return from Tadley to Basingstoke is £5.40 or it was last time I checked so doesn't seem that bad that it can get from Tadley to Reading and back for less.

Can't remember the standard of the bus though but each to their own.

As an aside, they've got some new single deckers with the message on the back to tell other motorists to switch off when idling.
None of their buses do though. Cretins.

I would doubt it, the bus service is great, if hampered a bit by evening traffic on night games.

Would be quite beneficial for those travelling from Reading West, Mortimer, Bramley or Basingstoke though. Basingstoke does have the bus service but it’s a bit expense, it’s a shit Stagecoach bus and it takes ages.

Isn't the Basingstoke bus about a fiver return?
Picked it up a few years back from Tadley and it was ok.

6 pound from basingstoke to the ground and back, not good value?

wait till you check out train fairs and carparking charges!

I mean, its fine, but for me it just takes too long, is on a crappy bus and you have to listen to morons who are also on the bus.

Return train from Basingstoke to Reading, with a railcard is £6.40 and it only takes 18 minutes which is great.

Tbf, I have a chip on my shoulder about all stagecoach bus services as the bus service in Basingstoke is shocking, when compared to Reading.

Station scheduled to open in late 2020 according to RBC newsletter. Won't be holding my breath.

On the fares to "Reading stations" issue, there is recent local precedent. Oxford Parkway is ticketed separately from Oxford.

I think this is the closure I was seeking - thanks The Cube.

A 6 min journey between the two at a cost of £2.40

have to factor in the travel from train station to the ground too.

for me our local buses got me to the ground and home again much quicker and cheaper than i could do it by driving myself. but then i dont live as far away as basingstoke, so that probs makes a difference

Reading is now officially on the tube map in any case which is much bigger news. I never knew Reading was so close to Northolt.

My daughter is very impressed as she is now telling people she comes from London, lol.

Still in the "Here be dragons" fare zone, though.

A mere technicality for young people.

It's £5 to/from the ground in the same postcode area as the stadium!

A lot to dislike here, ignorance of postcode geography (Basingstoke is also in the same postcode area, RG), misspelling of fair, and overuse of apostrophes. But it's the latter that jars most somehow.

I was referring to the RG2 postcode area.

Folk (e.g. Andy Burnham) who play up divisive politics and go on about the big gulf between North and South WRT public transport infrastructure projects only need to look at this to say it's not as clear cut as that.

This is just another halt on an existing line, right? And it's taken as long as cross rail to implement (even this thread is dated 2007). Pretty pathetic. The transpenine route will probably see improvements before a single passenger has alighted at this wretched station.

Might it be because there is probably little demand / benefit regarding the Green Park station ?
