Next Season's home kit

by Salford Royal » 27 Nov 2007 09:57

As we've had this kit for 2 seasons, I imagine we will definitely have a new kit next season. With that in mind, is there any chance the fans can influence the design for once?

I have to say that our prem kit is in my opinion the worst we've had for quite a while. I don't like the sleeves, I don't like the collar, the material is rubbish and there are no hoops. Surely we can have a bit more input this time?

Failing that, it is possible that Puma (if they continue to make our kit) will already have a new template made, and will just need to put hoops on it. If we can't influence the design, can we please, please, please request a return to white shorts and socks?

I only want 2 things from the next kit - White shorts and proper hoops.

Good man.

I want white shorts, white socks and a top that doesn't look like someones grandma stitched it together.

The campaign starts NOW.

Unfortunately, the powers that be have denoted that the backs of shirts have to be a single colour so that fans can read the numbers more easily (look at Newcastle for another example). So I think hoops are a definite non-starter.

I know, another stupid, stupid rule for the benefit of Chinese fans, while simultaneously destroying the club heritage. Who gives a rats ass how easy it is to read player's names? As long as the numbers are clear for the ref, it really shouldn't matter.

Hell in a handcart.

Anyway, whilst I do want to see the hoops return at some point (I bet they wouldn't do it to Celtic), the emphasis of my quest is really to have a sensible, classic kit.... WITH WHITE SHORTS.

I like blue shorts

It also used to annoy me when we had black names and numbers on hoops which were very difficult to read.

Was it black on hoops or red on hoops, I can't remember?

I think we've had both. Red looks better.

But really, is there any need to see the player's name? Surely we can tell Harper and Boris apart? Just stick a bright red number on the back. Sorted.

We had both, the red worked fine.

The black was in the 2003 - 2004 season

The red worked best on the 2000-2001 strip when we had proper hoops all the way round.

If you are a fan you don't need numbers to tell who is who..

It used to be tricky to tell Igoe and Shorey apart, but then again one was a right winger and the other a left back so it really wasn;t an issue.

Anyone who can only tell who is playiing for his team by checking the number really can;t claim to be too much of a fan and probably shouldn;t worry too much about minor kit related details.

I'm much less worried out the kit (AFAIK our current kit has hoops so why the concern ?) than about winning games.

Said it before and I'll say it again.

The Nike Celtic 07-08 homekit should be the benchmark. White shorts and white socks are an absolute must.
OK, we've got to have the panel on the back, but there's no reason why that can't be accommodated into a decent shirt design.

Am I the only person who couldn't give a rats what our kit looks like?

I'll forgive the collar as long as we have the Premier League badges on the sleeves.

Can I be the first to ask:

Are there different regulations regarding shirt design in the Championship or will we just have to change the badges?!

Believe its just the home kit that will be changed - which is obviously the important one.

Personally I quite like the Barbarians shirt....

Put that in blue and we're starting to get somewhere.

And again no.

But there again "our heritage has been destroyed" by not allowing us full hoops on the shirts! What a hoot!

What we've already had down the years

1991/2 and 1998/9 have been by far the worst.

I really dislike the current kit, because of the back panel. I know I've said it before, but it isn't the law to have it like that. Couldn't the back panel be made smaller, rather than having it all over the back? Like in 1994/5 when we had a little white panel and a red number on it. That worked ever so well. The back panel is an abomination of today's kits and it's everywhere, even in league two.

I think by contributing to this thread one is likely to assume I am a 'shirter'. I am not. Thanks.
