Sonko? I'm sure he would want the game time? Surely Hunt should be in the current team, as he couldn't get in the 05/06 team.

The rest? Doesn't seem to add up to me - Is it gonna be 45 minutes of the nearest 05/06 team they can field and then a mismash of old reading players with subs every 5 minutes?

Baines lol @ going to a testimonial

Embarrassing. Fan, are we? Or maybe you don't think he achieved anything in his 11 seasons with us... Don't go if you don't want to, but don't sit and laugh at others who are going to show some appreciation for a legend.

Testimonials are just glorified friendlies - a waste of time and money. He got plenty of appreciation (mostly deserved) from Reading fans throughout his time here, even when, at the beginning and end of his career with Reading, he was only able to make limited contributions.

Fyi - it's never embarrassing to want to lol @ grown men who worship footballers.

I was, with only the smallest amount of exaggeration, characterising your actions and expressed views.

Bit sad really.

Shamrock r managed to get real Madrid for a friendly, sadly Murts was really unlucky in this testimonial.

Somebody paid Real Madrid an awful lot of money then.

With regards to Murts' testimonial, Celtic may have drawn in more punters, but their match fees and police costs made it untenable. His biggest misfortunes were being out injured and out of the spotlight for much of last season and Coppell not returning to manage the 106 team. That's what going to kill the attendance.

I'd have certainly made no more effort to go no matter who was the opposition. Although if it hadn't had so many hick ups I may have been able to plan enough in advance to show up.

It's the having to take at least a day, if not two off work that is the killer for me though.

should be more than the 6k

However, given Parkys 18/19k turnout on the back of a "promotion season", it maybe highlights the mindset of many Reading fans.

Still, its their money, their choice and their reasons not to attend.

Me? I am absolutely looking forward to seeing some of our ex's who got us to that 2005/2006 season.....and fair play to them for making the effort to attend!

Think Kitson and Sonko haven't been released by Stoke to play

Coppell is caddying for his son in a golf tournament in the states

I'm going for a bit of a chat with mates I only see at football, and to ease myself back into the football routine.

Friendlies are like that first 10 minutes at work in the moring, where you flick through your email, shuffle a few things around on your desk, make a cup of coffee, chat about what was on tv last night, rather than getting down to any real work.

Nobody goes to friendlies to get really into the match, as the matches are seldom any good. saying that, somehow they are never boring in the way that a dull league match is, probably because there's no frustration of dropping points etc. I went to Kettering, for example, and it was just a nice little day out. With the social club at the ground directly overlooking the pitch from its beer tent, it was like an afternoon in the pub, but with a match thrown in.

I'm going out of respect for Murty but i'm fully expecting it to be rubbish. It's a great shame Murts was injured for the season and the team were so dull and uninspiring. The result is a poor turnout for a legend who deserves better.

as already said in a roundabout way

As a last resort...it should've been made "pay at the gate" at least a fortnight ago
