WestYorksRoyal I see the Scottish media are starting to bring out quotes about English arrogance and complacency which could be our downfall on Friday. Have the people saying this been living in a vacuum in the past 5 years? There has never been a less arrogant, less complancent England team that this one under Southgate. It seems a lot of opponents still have an outdated view of England. All our opponents said it in 2018 too, but we only lost then because we played a better team with a world class midfield.

Should have beaten that team as well though.

Sanguine Mad to think that, including internationals, Donnarumma has played 278 games already. He turned 22 in February. Wish there was a database with this stuff, most appearances/goals at certain ages, etc.

Jude Bellingham is on 95, and could conceivably make 98 appearances before he turns 18. Sessegnon had played 82 times for Fulham at the same point.

Out of interest how many games had Norman Whiteside played by the time he was 18/19?

He turned 18 at the end of his first full season (1982-83) in the side, having played a total of 59 games for United. Can't be bothered to look up exact dates of Northern Ireland fixtures, but he had 12 international caps at the end of 1983 calendar year. So in the region of 65.

Because that is all that the Scottish media can do; they know that their best striker against Czechia was Southampton's 2nd striker who is behind Danny Ings in the pecking order at St Mary's, and he couldn't even get into the England squad.

Anyway, I am not sure what they are worried about..........even if they lose on Friday, Nicola Sturgeon will demand that the game is replayed again and again until she gets the result that she wants.............

IMO Scottish (and Welsh) comments about arrogance are generally aimed at the English as a nation. As with much of other people’s opinions about the English, it’s generally based on historical colonial empire-building attitudes, rather than current attitudes. And of course the English media are constantly feeding this opinion with their unrealistic expectations of the England team and its prospects. So I’m not sure the actual arrogance, or lack of it, of England players and management make much difference.

It's hard not to be arrogant when your nearest neighbours are best know for angry alcoholism and low life expectancy, sectarian violence and religious extremism, surrendering and strikes, and sheep and flem.

Any Scot who is too blinded to see their role in the empire should undergo mandatory education on the topic. Glasgow has as much wealth originating from the slave trade and empire as Bristol.

A forrin told me that most other nations see us as arrogant about out football team because we always sing that 'its coming home' each tournament. I tried explaining that this is nothing more than a feel good singalong and is not an announcement of how we actually feel, and that most of the time we are just waiting for things to implode spectacularly, but he wasn't having it at all

Even if they acknowledged that, they would no doubt point to years of persecution by the English.

And Trainspotting probably sums up their views, that the degradation of Scottish society occurred at the hands of the English. “Scotland was colonised by oxf*rd, ruled by effete arseholes!“.

Wasn't it the Scottish Lowlanders who did most the persecuting, and of Highlanders...

Yeh I think you’re right, but never let the truth get in the way of a good story, or even a dodgy story like Braveheart

Think it is ok if you just do it against the other home nations.

I'd actually consider SF to be the racist one for considering a nation to only include a single race and therefore disregarding the ethnic minorities in Scotland from being Scottish. Etc.
