RoI vs Italy, plus Jack Charlton's excitement at ensuring that his players were taking on fluids.

Ouroboros I hit reply to say that I thought USA 94 was shit, but the wiki page has put my memory straight on that one.

That brilliant Romania team - especially the stunning 3-2 win over Argentina.
Spain 2-2 South Korea - Spain having been 2-0 up with 5 minutes to go.
Al-Owairian imitates Maradona.
Late Baggio goals.
Bulgaria 2-1 Germany

Shame the final was such a disaster.

1994 was absolute, unmitigated skillz.

I never thought anything would beat 1970, but 2014 has managed it. Just been brilliant from day one and the group stages were the best ever.

I only remember as far back as 1998, so this year has definitely been the best WC of my lifetime

The exotic nature of the TV coverage from Argentina 78 was special (the whole ticker tape thing was stunning at the time), as was the Jock's meltdown there (and so nearly making it....but not quite :D ) Spoilt by the clear corruption in allowing the Argies to get to the final.

1982 was also good; especially Sir Steve Coppell's pass to Bryan Robson to score in 27 seconds v France, Northern Ireland beating Spain, the France v West Germany semi-final and Marco Tardelli's reaction after scoring in the final.

1990 was terrible in the Group stages (England v Republic of Ireland was a shocker), but was more than made up for in the knock out stages, and more so because England, for once, were at the centre of it! :D

1994 passed me by; the final was disrupted by some militant feminists knocking out a local power sub station so I didn't get to see much of the game!

As for 2014, its up there without a doubt; in many respects, World Cups are remembered for a single game or incident, and this one - without a doubt - will be remembered for the Germany/Brazil semi.
