How long is this forum staying open for?

by Green » 14 Jul 2014 12:39

All the world cup paraphernalia coming down in my office today.

Can't help but feel a slight anti climax about it all, this time last month there was a palpable air of excitement and anticipation about the place, now it's just a bit :| . Brazil's drubbing aside I guess, but it's a tournament that's largely passed me by for one reason and another.

I would personally turn this forum into an "international football forum"

Use it for the Euro qualifiers and then turn it into the Euro 16 forum etc

I'm pessimistic about Russia 2018 or Qatar/wherever 2022 being even half as good as this. But we can't keep looking back, Green. Give it a week, transfer all the threads to General Football, apart from any posts by Ian Royal which should be preserved in the now moribund World Cup forum as a monument to his stupidity.

chuckle

Agreed on the Ruskies and Qataris failing to bribe people enough to enjoy the thing.

Nice little existential thread, this one.

Green All the world cup paraphernalia coming down in my office today.

What exactly did this involve? Inflatable mascots, bunting, painting a mural of the Rio skyline? That sort of thing?

Yep, + giant flags and in my case a wallchart which I dutifully filled in (filled out?). Was actually a bit of a bind but I'd started so had to see the blasted thing through.

There's still an Australia flag up in the office, seems to be the last bastion.

Not many football fans in my office so most people stopped talking about it the day after England lost to Uruguay.

The one exception is the Everton "fanatic" who's been to Goodison twice in his 36 years, waxes lyrical about Sharpe and Southall but has never heard of Derek Mountfield and who on a daily basis, in all seriousness tells me that Royston Drenthe is world class and we should be grateful he plays for us.

I think he's Dave-Royal's Yorkshire cousin because he took great delight in telling me in depth what happened 3 days previously in the World Cup.

I reckon we should just start discussing all the games again as if it's the start of the tournament again.

So Brazil - Croatia, can see Brazil scraping through this one even though Croatia are quite a good team with some good players. Don't know about Brazil for the tournament though, think their defence is very weak and Fred isn't going to win you a World Cup. They need to avoid Neymar getting injured as well.
