I think the whole 1st place and 2nd place thing is distracting, adds nothing and is just annoying.

Just have top two win and qualify

All qualifiers go into a draw.

Sick of all this "would've better to finish second" bullshit

Just like domestic cups I guess. Just seems there must be a better way of doing it.

Plus it's part of the fun, who gets who. Complete gamble.

Let's run it every year then. Could be like the FA cup. Something to look forward to every June and July

A draw system just wouldn’t work with the World Cup. Not unless you dramatically increased the number of days between each round. As it stands the teams who played yesterday know where their next game is going to be and they can travel and prepare for it accordingly. You could then have a team who played in the last group matches playing against them and they’d have significantly less time to prepare.

The way they do it now might not be the most exciting but it does keep it fair and it means we’re not waiting days between games.

Worryingly no

Good points with regards to the draw issue. Travelling amen preparation for fans/teams is a big issue. Can see why it wouldn't work

A WC every year just sounds insane. Absolutely insane. #pray4bobby

Colombia and then Sweden or Switzerland? Genuinely our best chance at getting to the semis in a generation.

Sweden are a bit of a bogey team though aren't they? Certainly the sort of organised hard workers who will give us problems.

I just think we should back ourselves and not obsess about finding an easy route through. We'll have to try and beat someone good at some point. Don't see much difference between losing to the first top club we play whether it's in the second round or semi.

I'd rather we faced a not very impressive Brazil, for example, and got the knockout experience against a 'top' side.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Mexico beat Brazil as it happens.

I’d say we’re just as likely to lose to Spain as we were to Brazil and losing to Spain in a semi-final > losing to Brazil in a quarter final.

Maybe, but losing to Brazil in the Qs is >>>>> than losing to Columbia in the second round or Sweden / Switzerland in the Qs. Which would be a big morale blow and after our start make our world cup look a big failure, especially given our approach to Belgium

Well of course, but by the same token of assumption who’s to say we’d beat Japan?

Obviously I’m being a tad facetious and yes, Colombia does represent the more difficult match, but at the end of the day overall we still have a higher chance of progressing further, either way it’s all conjuncture and I suppose we should just be happy we’re in it anyway.
