Yes but we aren't the most decorated club in the history of English football.

Maybe 'attacking mindset' is too strong, but what's already evident since Hodgson took over is how much deeper the defence are sitting, how little we are seeing the central defenders moving forward with the ball (exacerbated by Agger being played at full-back), how much less of an attacking threat Johnson has been since the opening match, and paradoxically how much more of the ball Gerrard is seeing in the middle of the park, whereas previously much of his possession was approaching the final third.

So no, Benitez never had an 'attacking mindset', but a way of playing that leant itself to more attacking football, imho.

Just about:

League Championship = level
FA Cup = Man United +4
League Cup = Liverpool +3
European Cup = Liverpool +2
Other European = Liverpool +4
Worldwide = Man United +2

It always surprises me how much people care about the welfare of the Mighty Reds.
On the one hand they go on about life since football was supposedly invented (i.e the start of the Premiership)and how badly Liverpool have done and yet seem to think with their fantastic history they should somehow still be beating every team, every week.
As one who genuinely does care about Liverpool FC I won't try to defend them because of one poor result in the week after they have scored twice at Old Trafford.
Last night they played mainly reserves,as Chelsea did,and found out that those reserves are not very good,as Chelsea did and as City did,in a competition that so few clubs take seriously.
The clubs that should be worrying more perhaps are Everton and Sunderland who both fielded almost a full first team and yet went out to Brentford and West Ham (without their only decent player,Scott Parker)especially as Bruce had said how committed they were to trying to win the competition.
On the other hand (for whatever reason)Liverpool,Chelsea and City did not see the Carling Cup as something to take seriously and the results back that up.

Another league cup game another reserve team goes out! Such disrespect to the opponents who are going to be thoroughly "pumped up" for the occasion. Serves them right. Just goes to show there is naff all strength in depth at the club.

Or anywhere, given the other clubs that have gone out. Which is sort of refreshing in a way, perhaps indicates that one impact of the financial downturn is that clubs are not able to field such talented 'reserve' sides any more.

Perhaps this should be on the football in crisis thread, but this is an interesting read

Missing out on the Champions league has fooked their budget.

Bizarrely, someone on SSN this morning (either Tony Gale or that Darren Lewis muppet from one of the papers - I get the two confused obviously) was saying how Benitez got out at the right time because this season was always going to start badly...

It's pretty much only started badly because of the way Benitez ruined last season and they're now just a bit of an also ran side thanks to his management.

Hodgson has a massive job on his hands.
