No Fixed Abode It would be epic to get Battersea and turn it in to a special stadium

Are Chelsea's days as a force in English football over? They couldn't get a big name manager in the summer, couldn't sign any of their first choice transfer targets, have no strikers and seem to be pinning their hopes this season on Silva lite and someone who found his level at Bolton last season.

Could be a good battle for 5th between them and Liverpool this year.

ZacNaloen
who are ya?
ZacNaloen If it were Battersea power station with a football ground inside it, it could be amazing.

That's what I think. If done well it would turn into one hell of an iconic stadium but at the same time I'm normally not one for old landmark buildings being touched

Yeh, The stumbling block would be that I have no real concept of how easy getting 60,000 seats in would be.

They can fit a pitch in there and 40,000 without too much issue using my very basic measuring tool on google maps (comparing it to Emirates), but getting a 60,000 seats in there would be more of a challenge.

For example, it would have to be a lot steaper than emirates is (although emirates is a massive oxf*rd bowl so perhaps not that hard), it would end up being a more traditional cramped over the pitch type stadium if they can fit it in (and the better for it). But I can't measure how tall emirates is on this map compared to battersea.

But it has potential to be iconic if the space is big enough.

Structurally I think it depends on the internal walls to take the weight of the outsdie walls and the chimneys, so if you take them away to get a picth inside you'd need lots of weight-bearing supports outside the landmark building.

BPS is totally oxf*rd, it needs huge investment just to make it into a stable ruin, let alone anything else.

It would be great to see something done with it - at this rate it's just going to carry on decaying and will just fall down one day.

Having been inside ;), it wouldn't just be as simple as bunging a pitch in the middle and some stands on the outside - it's actually two separately built power stations (A side and B side), joined in the middle - hence there's structural walls around the middle of the site and despite a large empty space in the middle, there's not huge scope to put anything around it.

Alas, I feel that if the site was acquired for the stadium, it would see the end of London's favourite ruin.

Chelsea would only need to knock one side down though for a ground to suit their size so maybe there is room for compromise

Chelsea entertain Wolves at Stamford Bridge this weekend, and John Terry is looking forward to their arrival.

He said, "Wolverhampton is a great town. I love the Black Country as it has two of my favourite syllables."
