Be interesting to see if Ozil is around the squad next week against City

And subsequently, if he's recalled to the PL/EL squad for January

Missed a trick by leaving him out IMO

Yes, just what they need when the team needs to show a bit of fight to get out a shocking run of form... one of the most inconsistent and overpaid players in the league

I don’t think lack of fight is really the issue here for Arsenal. It’s a combination of having a distinct lack of quality in their midfield and also having thick players in their squad who are too erratic

I mean they’ve scored 0 goals in the league from open play since the 17th October (8 games). Ozil’s attitude is questionable, I’ll grant you that, but do you really not think he’d improve their midfield? They played Lacazette at CAM on Sunday FFS

No I don't think he would improve their midfield because as soon as the going gets a bit tough he'll shy away from the action and then it is like playing with 10 men, or worse considering the rest of the XI for Arsenal at the moment. Either that or he'll be amazing for 1 game, be the second coming and then go missing for the next 6 and its just pointless.

Think you’re exaggerating a bit here

He does have too many games where he goes missing (especially for someone of his pay) but 6 games in 7? Nah

Either way regardless, something different has to be tried as there is simply no creativity in that team. I know Smith Rowe is highly regarded there, may be worth a try as the likes of Willian, Lacazette, Xhaka, Ceballos, even Willock ain’t working

It`s unthinkable for a supposed big 6 side to get relegated, but they are in a relegation battle without a doubt. when was the last time they scored apart from the pen at old Trafford?

EDIT, Scored from a corner against Wolves, haven`t scored from open play since they beat Sheffield utd at home 8 games ago.

I think only they and Everton have never been relagated from the top flight.

They really just seem devoid of ideas.

Another red card for Arsenal, there is a serious discipline issue at that club, has been for years.

....Pendant Alert :  'Toffees' were relegated in '29 & again in '51.

- so probably not in living memory for most of us ? :?

The first time they grabbed back to back titles too - not many promoted sides have done that - Ipswich maybe - who certainly did that in the early 60s?

Spent three terms in the 2nd Division after they went down in the early 50s.

...they are the 2nd longest serving club in the top-flight behind the @rse.

Everton have had the most seasons in the top flight and the second longest unbroken run after Arsenal.

Pretty sure Forest grabbed back to back titles in the 70s (and then followed it up with European champions the next season).

Bit off topic but ..good call - 8) had forgotten them - not quite b2b - 76-77 promoted in 3rd place behind Wolves and Chelsea .....but won the top flight the next season.

...and after a brief trawl I have found a back-to-back 2nd & 1st Div champion in Liverpool 04-05 & 05-06 (1904 of course  )

Meanwhile in 77 'we' we're dropping back into into Div 4 after one only season.

Still 2nd Division to European Champions in 2 years is pretty good going, largely with 2nd Division journeymen or players deemed not good enough at other clubs.

Update, one open play goal in 10 games! Progress finally being made

Think there’ll be a lot of eyes on the Arsenal team sheet on Wednesday to see if Mezut is back amongst the squad - it’s a lose lose situation whatever here for Arteta

I rate Ozil more than the average guy does but in fairness, Man City away is the exact sort of game he’d go missing and Arteta seemed to pick up some decent results against the big clubs last year

It’s against the lower league clubs where he’s most effective, finding space and picking out a pass no one can see in condensed penalty areas

Don't think I have ever seen a worse goalkeeper than Arsenal's. He actually looks like he has never played there before. He makes Virginia look like Neuer.

I hear Villa have a decent keeper. Not sure who they bought him off though.
