I'm not and never have been a fan of a manager walking out on a club to join another; players can't do it, so why should managers be able to?

I'm surprised that there aren't more cases of Clubs suing each other over this sort of thing; someone like Mackay or McDermott are worth far more to their clubs than the value of their contracts; add to that the disruption caused by the departure and in trying to find - and paying compensation for - a replacement, and the club losing their manager gets the brown end of the stick.

But on the other side of the coin the manager knows damn well that as soon as results start going badly they'll be the ones getting the blame and then the sack.

Not condoning it as I agree with you, but the whole system is rotten from both sides.

Exactly Svlad. If a manager has a bad spell he gets the sack. Look at Hughton - dealt with disgracefully at Newcastle. There is little loyalty either way.

At a fans forum that Rodgers went to here he said that it was open knowledge in the footballing world that Watford were a broken club and the current situation there with an ex bankrupt running it has to put the bejasus on anyone working there - their CEO has just suddenly walked off without explanation. If you work for an extremely shaky company, you look around and if you get a great offer, you leave.

Cardiff will pay Watford compensation for former Scotland defender Mackay estimated to be close to £300,000

Poor old Watford

Good move for Cardiff IMO.

Watford really are bolloxed. I've got a bit of a soft spot for them, hope we don't lose Gibbs to them, but it would be hard to blame him. Watford are a weird club, they could really struggle this season and go down, or challenge towards the play offs again. :|

Just about to say that! I think Ian was trying to get the point across that Watford are probably the epitome of a Championship club. In the past spent over their means, they're skint, high turnover of first team manager's, reliant on youth academy and so forth...

Yep

Porto's highly-rated coach Andre Villas-Boas is set to succeed Carlo Ancelotti as coach of Chelsea, according to Portuguese news agency Lusa.

Would be pleased with that - as he's worked for us before.

cmonurz Abramovich is surely mad if he thinks Villas Boas will leave Porto for Stamford Bridge.

Seems its Villas-Boas who is the crazy one.
