Old Man Andrews They haven't pushed Celtic for anything for about 10 years now.

No surprise really when for some of that time they weren't even in the same division.

Right, hence why they haven't pushed them. Genius.

Perhaps you should have added that little bit of extra info for balance.
Good to see the Gers back at the top and well done to Stevie G for getting hands-on experience away from English football and at a lower level than he has been used to.
It should help his progress in the long run which could include returning to the Mighty Reds as manager one day.

BR0B0T Celtic haven't finished out of the top 2 since 1995 (then back to 1988 :o )

yeah, looked that up

how badly did they fuck up from 1988 to 1995?

Gerrard has been brilliant at Rangers. 3rd the season before he joined, he sorted out their defence (they conceded 50 in 17-18, compared to 29 last season) and finished 2nd, now they look like pushing Celtic for the title.

this has always been the case tbf

Well it hasn't, but it's Gerrard, so I get you.

sorry, you're right

apart from 'legal action' meaning Rangers spent 4/5 seasons out of the division

it's largely been Rangers competing with Celtic for the title

Murty has exactly the same win rate as Gerrard

just going from wiki list...it looks like they never replaced McClair's goals. He scored 41 in 86/87

I would doubt it'd be something as irrelevant as a player - boardroom issues much more likely, no?

My related rabbit hole was Frank McAvennie - why did it all go south in 1992?

Drugs.

Lots and lots of drugs.

Guess it depends how you define 'competing with'. If it's 'being in the same division as', then fine, but to argue that Rangers have pushed Celtic in the title race in recent years is strange. I can only imagine it was an attempt to denigrate Ranger's good start to this season and how it finally looks like a proper two-horse race again. Because it's Gerrard.

they came 3rd, 3rd & 2nd since the return to SPL and are one of the very few clubs that have resources

but you're right Gerrard is the next big thing...guaranteed

You're trying really hard on this, because it's Gerrard. But I didn't say he was the next big thing, I threw in a tongue-in-cheek comment about a renewal of the Gerrard or Lampard argument, but said they had both made a good start to their managerial careers and they have.

It's evident that Gerrard has improved Rangers. They were 12 points behind them in 17-18, 33 the season before that.

By both teams.
Man Utd played it like a lower division side not to lose and nearly got a result beyond their dreams.
As for VAR, it is here to stay and although Spurs seem to get all the benefits, as do Southampton with 6 goals scored against them over-ruled, it will surely even out of a season for all teams.
Today it was unfortunately Man Utd's turn to benefit.

Can’t agree that Utd played like a lower division side.
They bossed the first half and made Liverpool look ordinary.
They only parked the bus after about an hour.

ManU up for a game against Liverpool? Surely not!

Get the impression they’re more up for it against Liverpool than they ever are v City.

Thought both teams were equally poor yesterday.

If anything it had the look and feel of a League 2 v Premier League side in the FA Cup 3rd Round. Man Utd the plucky lower league side holding their own against the big boys of Liverpool. Liverpool played down to United's level because they weren't up for it and nearly came unstuck. They would have won the game too had it not been for VAR.
