And another central defender as well.

Sonko may not be the player he was but he's better than a out there that we can probably get with our budget. I'd be happy with this.

Depends on what his fitness is like and if he does the rights things in training to impress McDermott. I think he would be good cover and our medical and fitness staff would help him to stay fit and as injury free as possible.

They say you should never go back in Football...

Heart says - this is going to beautiful and emotional. You can tell that those players of the 2005/06 season know that they've never had it better than in the era. I was lucky enough to do some work with Graeme Murty the other week and he said that what made that team so successful is that every single player had the best two seasons of their careers...

Head says - Post injury Sonko was a liability. Kryptonite = knee injury.

Come on the heart!!

Does the club no harm to take a look, especially as there's no fee involved.

Is he training with us so that Brian can take a look at him with a view to signing him?

Or is he just training with us as he is currently without a club and wants to keep fit (a la Pires with Arsenal last summer)?

BMcD will have the final say. Sonks, if fit, would be a good addition and provide us with much needed personnel at the back. If he does not come up to standard, BMcD will not go all sentimental.

Well i never!! To be honest this wasnt entirely out of the question. He certainly has the experience we are after and ultimately is a strong championship defender, though his injury record speaks for itself and his time at Stoke playing very few games is worrying. Im sure Brian knows how to get at Sonko's strengths and for me its nothing lost at taking a look, but as i said the lack of game time could decide whether we pursue this further.

Who remembers when he wiped out (literally) Cudicini - even Mills never topped that ....

Sonko or non-league superstar? Hard choice.. I'd take Sonko even at half the player he was over any other lower league gamble.

Plenty of players return to former clubs.

At the very least a good back-up.

I'd take him!

Work on his decision making in the penalty area though.

If, and that's a BIG IF, he can get back to anywhere near his pre-injury form then he would be a very good partner alongside Pearce (a younger and slightly slower version of Ingimarsson).

Also depends what our other options are of course.

I'd agree, he'd work as an experienced back up. Not sure for first choice, but perhaps he just needs a chance. Wasn't he on loan at Portsmouth last year? That might explain why he struggled to play... they have a lot of loanees...

Why else would you have someone on trial?

It might not be on trial, as someone else said it could just be a former player coming back to train to get himself up to speed whilst he looks for another club.

Backup? Depends on how good or bad Morrison looks I suppose (plus anyone else we can/can't get in too).
