RIP. Really shocking.

Obviously you can never tell but seemed like one of the least likely sportsmen to commit suicide.

Focher its a huge reminder to all of us that what you see on the outside can be so superficial.

Totally shocked. He was only on a footy show yesterday morning on Sky (can't remember which one), and he seemed fine.

Absolutely stunned. He seemed so level headed and in control. Goodness only knows what caused him to take his own life.

Dear oh dear. Thoughts for his family and friends.

Absolutely shocking news.

Presciently, The Secret Footballer in The Guardian yesterday wrote a very good piece yesterday about how depression is endemic in teh game and hardly ever reported on : http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2011/nov/25/the-secret-footballer

Thought this too, as well as the Stan Collymore and Twitter stuff.

Very few "News" items take my breath away these days but this has.

Very, very sad.

Welsh mate just texted me saying the atmosphere around Liberty is very strange, understandably.

Everyone is assuming depression at the catalyst, there has to be more to it than just dark depression, missus leaving him, caught with another woman, debts, who knows, by all accounts he was chipper and upbeat on Saturday, just seems too open.

Just unbelievable - woke up late, put on the football to this. Unexpected and just an all round shock. A very good professional and a credit to the game. Whatever the reasons are behind his death should not overshadow what a footballing legend he was. RIP Gary Speed

Lovely touch from the Swansea supporters turning a minute's silence into a minute's applause.

i really wish the crowd had stuck to the minutes silence, clapping just doesn`t seem right somehow.

Yes, I thought this. His death is a complete tragedy and he was so young. The PA guy specifically asked for a minute's silence and I felt it was a bit disrespectful for some to start clapping.
