It doesn't wrap it up for me either - I just think John Barnes was a really bad example to hold up as he was a shit manager full stop.

How many black people have actually gone in to management though? You can't hire them if all that's on offer is John Barnes, Chris Houghton and Chris Powell - 2 of which are employed.

Bad example, sure. But it's not like we are drowning in examples, and I guess that's the point. 20% of footie players in the league are black. You'd have thought, if things aren't hitting any barriers more than 2% of managers would be black.

It can't be that they "are all shit". And yet apparently it can't be because of discrimination. So what is going on?

Sounds like the programme did a bollocks job of exploring the issue, which is a shame.

The amount of black players has risen pretty dramatically over the last 20 years, so it's a no brainer that the amount of black coaches and managers will rise over the next 10-20 years. Increasing that number now just to please these idiots won't help anybody.

The issue of racism is going to take far longer to ease out of the game if kunts like John Barnes blame his shit coaching career on the fact that he is black rather than just a useless mongdiv

Prime example of shoddy journalism rife in the BBC presently. I wouldn't be surprised if they did all their research on wikipedia.

Brilliant example of pigshit ignorance in the Daily Mail, seemingly unable to tell the difference between race and nationality as they rubbish the existence of racism in football with “how can football be racist when 90% of Premier League managers are foreign?”

Seems the only qualification for writing for that shitwipe is “irrational anger”.

Football in this Country ISN'T racist. Quite why Clarke Carlisle, Jason Roberts and other black players are on a mission to prove this, is a waste of time.

But seriously give us some examples of racism within the English game (and i don't mean the use of a racist word - i mean full on monkey chanting by a chairman when a black manager comes in for an interview)

Hey bud, I'm not saying it IS racist. I’m just not going to accept it isn’t by some hermit agitator who has a twisted definition to begin with.

Personally I think it’s a fair question to ask when confronted by discrepancies in numbers of black managers compared to players. Is the variance innocent? Will the figures rise with time? Is anyone finding coaching badges harder to obtain? Is the demographic of black people who become players as interested/educated enough to explore coaching? Do black people rightly/wrongly even think it’s worth attempting? Is it an issue for wider society? Are prospective black managers being turned away, overlooked, avoided, under-interviewed, just not good enough?

I don’t know, but I'm not really going to let John Barnes time at Tranmere or a frothing column in The Sun decide for me.
