Just heard some fella on the wireless talking about this and it was said that CAS very rarely go against sporting bodies in their decisions.

Head of Man City supporters trust just said Guardiola is expected to leave City next summer anyway and they think this appeal will drag on beyond the summer so the CL thing wont affect him anyway.

Not winning an appeal would also mean they have broken Premier League FFP and would face a points deduction

Well that's a turn up for the books. UEFA discover their balls for once and not before time.

This would be quite funny were it to come to pass.

The Independant While no one sees an expulsion from the Premier League as likely, the Football League have recently changed their rules so that any club in that situation must start again in League Two.

I do wonder what the punishment would have been had it been an "Old Money" club like Real though, although they're not averse to some shady deals with the bank to raise money..

This has all the makings of a 'Bosman' moment for FFP.

Man City win this and the floodgates could be opened.

Anyway, Brexit means UEFA have no jurisdiction over English clubs, right ? That's what Ian Holloway thinks.

I've not really read into the finer details but I take it this was actual money gifted to the club by the owners in the guise of a sponsorship deal.

I bet Ian Holloway is an anti vaxxing flat earther.

Well that patently isn’t true. UEFA is the governing body for football across Europe and not every country in Europe is in the EU (eg Switzerland, Norway etc.) therefore if UEFA wants to ban a naughty club from their competitions then they can do so..

9 pt deduction isn't it in the PL unless they also have rules on aggravated breaches. So in theory if it's given this season will have no impact.

Anyone else think City will win back to back Premier Lesgue titles if this goes ahead?

They'll get the ban suspended on appeal won't they? This is just UEFA making a statement knowing full well the court of arbitration will overturn it.

Likely to be halved on appeal.
I have to say Barca and Real have got away with murder for years. Real have dodged bullets and Barca had a poncy transfer ban. Nothing like this. To me this is a making a point to the PL clubs whos dominance in the competition is growing. I feel a bit sorry for City because it appears not every club is treated equally by UEFA.
On the flip side City have broken rules so surely the PL will have to deduct points and fine also.

Which is crazy, because they either broke the rules or didn't.

I'm not sure, but are the rules different for Uefa and the Premier League?

One thing I did hear today is that City are being hit hard because of their deception not the actual breaking of the rules.

I believe the rules are slightly different. Presumably it being a second offence has added to the penalty.

For all the money Guardiola has spent, how many world class players do you think Man City have in their squad right now?

Here is their squad:

Kyle Walker
Rúben Dias
John Stones
Nathan Aké
Raheem Sterling
İlkay Gündoğan
Gabriel Jesus
Sergio Agüero
Oleksandr Zinchenko
Zack Steffen
Aymeric Laporte
Rodrigo
Kevin De Bruyne
Bernardo Silva
Ferran Torres
Benjamin Mendy
Fernandinho
Riyad Mahrez
João Cancelo
Ederson
Scott Carson
Philippe Sandler
Phil Foden
Eric García

Personally for me:

Sterling (on his day)
Agüero (probably one of the best out-and-out finishers in the league, still)
Laporte
KDB (obviously)

Thats probably about it. I would also say they lost one in David Silva in the summer.

Haven't seen enough of their new players to make too much of a judgement on.

I'm taking a pretty wide view of world-class, i.e. not the dull 'would they get into a world XI'.
Aguero, De Bruyne, Sterling, Mahrez, Laporte, Ederson would get into most or all first teams in the PL.
Additionally, I don't think any club would turn down a reasonable chance to sign Foden, Gundogan, Mendy or Silva. And Dias looks a pretty solid signing.

In short, 6, plus others who are pretty much as good as any alternatives.
