FA Cup Final thread

by bobbybottler » 11 May 2013 08:51

So, I was out earlier to score a loaf from Greggs and passed the paper stand thinking I might hoover up a free bet or two, but you wouldn't even know that the final was today :(

Time was this was the biggest event of the moment, not even a footnote now. I have happy memories of watching FA Cup Final Jim'll Fix It and some LOLoser wanting to make the Cup Final match ball only for it to deflate after 20 minutes. 1981 ish?

Anyway, Wigan have so many out, and will be taking it easy in order to save themselves for their remaining Prem fixtures, plus Manchester City will need to win this to cover their league shortcomings - it's an obvious pick of Manchester City.

I haven't felt this confident about backing a favourite since lumping on Leeds to beat Sunderland.

I remember the days when it was the seasons main event, with the It's a knock competition in the morning and following the team coaches from their hotels to the ground.

Now it does seem a bit lame, particularly when it's a late kick off.

Late kick-off and season hasn't finished = non-event

Sadly it is a non-event these days. I hope Wigan do pull a surprise ( all City players should be sacked if they fck this one up).

Surely the odds are so short it's not worth lumping on City, Bobby?

4/11 to win in 90 minutes strikes me as being a less shit bet than 2/11 to win outright.

I can't for the life of me see how Wigan win this, although I'm sure I must have said something similar in 1973 / 76 / 80 / 88 etc.

Its a shame its been so devalued

Its much more exciting than the oxf*rd champions league etc...

Its kinda lost its magic a bit for us now though as there is no excitment in us drawing a big team anymore.I seem to hope for a conference team or whatnot for a bit of FA Cup exitement nowadays,as far as Reading are concerned.

Would love us to make the final oneday...

-Both teams already played at Wembley in the semis
- 17:15 KO
- ITV Adverts
- Other games being played
- Not the final game of the season

Complete non-event.

Considering there are no other games there can surely be no justification for this not being a 3 o'clock kick off

Exactly, these days the final is just clutter, the FA/PL haven't even got the decency to make it the season closer any more and with the fact the SFs are now played at Wembley making it just another game the magic has long gone.

Plus ITV coverage of sport ranges from annoying to appalling and quite often manages both so who cares anymore unless your team actually make through.

Isn't only not the season closer this year due to the CL final being at Wembley on the 25th? Sure the FA have committed to it being the closer again after this year.

It's not been the season closer more often than not for the past 10 years.

Quite a few empty seats including one large block on the opposite side from the cameras.

I know, point is the FA made a commitment, I think last year for it to be but it can't be this year due to the the CL Final.
