UEFA Nations League

by stealthpapes » 10 Oct 2013 20:26

http://www.theguardian.com/football/201 ... friendlies

A suggestion to replace friendlies is a competitive ladder consisting of up to nine mini-leagues.

I ... well , I quite like the idea.

How the groups might look
1st division: Spain, Germany, Holland, Italy, England, Portugal
2nd division: Russia, Greece, Croatia, Sweden, France, Bosnia-Herzegovina
3rd division: Ukraine, Denmark, Switzerland, Belgium, Hungary, Czech Republic
4th division: Ireland, Serbia, Norway, Slovakia, Turkey, Israel
5th division: Slovenia, Austria, Romania, Montenegro, Poland, Finland
6th division: Scotland, Armenia, Bulgaria, Latvia, Estonia, Belarus
7th division: Wales, Northern Ireland, Albania, Iceland, Lithuania, Macedonia
8th division: Georgia, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Luxembourg, Cyprus, Kazakhstan
9th division: Liechtenstein, Faroe Islands, Malta, Andorra, San Marino, Gibraltar

This makes me wonder. Who would watch Andorra v San Marino!?

Lol at Belgium in the third division.

Also how did Northern Ireand get to be in a division above "us"? We took four points off of them this round.

The big sticking point would be "The FA and the other big European associations ... would have to give up the possibility of lucrative friendlies against big South American sides."

Cautiously optimistic.

If this doesn't get off the ground can we have Gibraltar in a home internationals series so that we can lol when they beat Scotland.

IN! for this.

I do wonder what international managers will think as they may want to arrange friendlies against teams they choose rather than whoever is next up in this nations league games

I think this league might benefit us actually, we need to play against those top sides more often, they keep leaving us behind through being smarter we might catch on to what trend to copy quicker if we play them more often ;)
