I'd be amazed if this happens, surely the Premier League et al make so much money they can't afford to let it happen. And if I've learnt anything about FIFA and the modern game it's that money talks.

Thing is as well, i can't see the leagues starting up again until a good week or so later...meaning no boxing day football :(

Or will the leagues do a rugby and just carry on without WC players?

As I have said many other times in the many other threads about this. I like it. Loads of other leagues around the world have to stop for the world cup and the world keeps turning for them, I am sure it will for us.

It could also mean 3 seasons of summer football to make way for this. Late evening games when the heat of the day is gone? F*ck yeah! I also give zero f*cks about boxing day football

Still hoping the Swiss investigation into the awarding of this tournament will lead to the correct moral decision to remove the finals from Qatar and reopen the bidding process.

Who finished second in the vote ? Australia wasn't it ?
don't bother with a new vote, just give it to them

We should have the world cup.

It has been our turn to have it for about two decades now.

The world cup shouldn't be in Qatar, it should just come home to England: proper temperatures; matches at the right time for European audiences; decent stadiums; etc.

Anybody who disagrees is probably a member of the Blatter family.

Australia only got 1 vote and were knocked out in the 1st round. 2nd place in the voting was the USA

Hmmm that does make the U.S. intervention in the whole story a little more conspiratorial.

Still, my suggestion stands, give it to the country that finished second - so the US it is

Have you spotted the lack of Premiership rugby currently ?
Although to be fair it does restart before the WC is actually over.

That would be a very good point except that every year the Premiership rugby continues unabated whilst the Six Nations is running.
The reason there's no Premiership rugby at the moment is all to do with people using their hard-earned to attend the WC - during the Six Nations there's only ever 3 games in England in a season - there's 48 during the WC (oh, hang on - there's about half a dozen at the Millenium, so ONLY 40ish)
