Has any one country provided all 4 finalists for the two main European club competitions before? Or 4 out of 6 in the "good old days" of the Cup Winners Cup?

Heads up - I have decided I am pretty much all about comebacks from now on.

The most that could have entered Europe in total in the good old days would have only been four or five, no?

The first 'derby' CL was 2000, with Real vs Valencia. After that, you've United Chelsea in 2008 and Real Atletico in 2014. Might be more, but I'd have to look them up.

Wasn't the first UEFA cup final two English clubs?

LUX Never seen anything like it tonight and last night.

Lucas Moura was the only decent Spurs player last week, tonight he was sensational. But Alli made the first and third.

The Ajax goalie made three of the best saves I’ve ever seen.

Foolishly I suggested us taking a look at Onana a few seasons ago only to be rightly put in my place.

Decent shot-stopper, but  at his distribution over the two legs.

Flapped at some crosses as well. Is there an argument he messed up for the second goal as well.
Martinez has made a few worldies this season, Would rather have him personally.

No, the closest anybody has got is 3 teams and only once has this been two teams in the CL /EC final all the other times it was the UC/EL final as a game between two teams in the same country.

Spain in 2015-16 (Real, Athletico, and Sevilla.) Italy in 1997-98 (Inter, Lazio and Juve) Italy in 94-95 (Parma, Juventus and AC Milan) Italy 89-90 ( Milan, Juve, Fiorentina) Germany 79-80 (Eintract Frankfurt, Borussia Monchengladbach, Hamburg.)

In 89-90 Sampadoria also made the Cup Winners Cup Final so their total would have been 4.

There has also never been a UC/EL final between two teams from the same city.

If it wasn't for his wonder save, Spurs would've scored anyway. Balances out for me.

Easy to forget that Spurs got just a point from their first three group games, and needed an 85th minute equaliser at Barcelona to reach the knockout stages (scored by Lucas Moura, of course). They'd have gone out without Harry Kane's 89th minute winner against PSV too, in their fourth group game.

Would have also gone out had Nick Viergever not made an incredible last-ditch tackle to deny Inter in the last minute of Inter vs PSV

If, as expected, Chelsea & Arsenal make the final tonight, it will mean that with the exception of Man Utd all English clubs who made the main draw of CL/EL - they will only get knocked out by another English club.

Which is quite bizarre really.

If you include the Fairs Cup, there was also Valencia Barcelona in 62, Real Zaragoza Valencia in 64 and Barcelona Real Zaragoza in 66 but the qualification criteria were not based on anything remotely resembling ability and UEFA do not recognise it as an official competition, although FIFA do.

So Valencia need 3 secomd half goals. Like that's ever happened

Am I the only one who was rooting for Frankfurt last night? Would have been sweet if Chelsea had been the one English club who didn't get there...

Nope, but then I live in Frankfurt and couldn't give a flying one about Chelsea. Thought Eintracht played really well last night and became the better team as the game wore on, so much so that come extra time, they looked the most likely to nick it before pens.

Knew they would lose the shootout as soon as Hinteregger went for power and the Chelsea keeper just managed to jam his leg down in time. You don't tend to see that sort of save in shootouts and just turned the tide.

All in all been a great season for Eintracht - to get to the semis was way beyond expectations - they just need to find the win that may be enough for the CL next year now and it will have been a fantastic season.

Arsenal and Chelsea have each been allocated just 6,000 tickets for the Europa League final at the 68,700 Olympic Stadium in Baku.
