Hearts are now considering taking legal action against the SPFL

Broadly, for England too, I really don't understand why the promotion only model hasn't taken off. Is it really that difficult to make room for (say) two additional Premier League game weeks?

It isn't difficult but when you have top managers already complaining about fixture congestion, the FA are probably quite reluctant to introduce it.

Cancel the cups for a year.

Or alternatively, managers can just get on with it and stop complaining. If they don't like the structure of the English league, they know what to do, no-one forces them to manage here!

Wouldn't necessarily be against cancelling the league cup but not all of them, they're a good opportunity for youngsters from the academy to broadcast themselves as few seem to be given chances in the bread and butter of the league

What and share out that Premier League money amongst two extra clubs? I don't think you understand how modern football works.

Reckon it won’t be long before either the leading PL clubs pull out of the League Cup altogether “due to conflicts with European fixtures” or officially just enter their academy sides and once that happens the whole tournament will quietly die in a corner somewhere as it becomes the new full members cup.

Wouldn't be sad if it was just for Championship, L1 and L2 clubs, maybe throw in the Conference teams as well while you're at it and re-brand it.

It is the league cup so maybe should just be EFL teams , but can you imagine the EFL giving up the chances to have the big boys involved and have Europe as a prize?

Keep Europe as a prize but exclude from qualifying for Europe any team which fields less than half their 'first team' in ANY round.

Not workable and too many flaws to count, be hey

Just EFL teams. Winner gets promoted to the Premier League.

I am a traditionalist, but the League Cup is a joke, not worth it. The premiership sides certainly do not take it seriously.

Same goes for the FA Cup tbh tbf. Unfortunately. Early rounds are good.

How can we make the FA Cup great again, Lux?

Make the players wear suits with a flower in their lapels on Cup Final day. Which must be a Saturday at 3pm. The players go out onto the hallowed turf at 1 pm, in their suits and get all nervous. No iPods/ headphones allowed.

Yup. all domestic cups in Europe (excluding League Cups obviously) in all countries carry a CL spot. After all in a knockout competition you are effectively champions having been the last man standing in knockout competition.
I've never understood how 4th place carries such a reward when the the team has finished 20+ points off the champions sometimes. You can bet your life teams will take it seriously.

You can get extremely lucky with Cups and make it to the final whilst not being particularly good (Wimbledon, Milwall etc)

The prem's 4th place team > the majority of other countries champions

True although usually a top team wins the Cup. It gives the competition more clout if there is a tangible reward at the end.

And you can rest assured that all but maybe the top one or two* would take the competition VERY seriously

*assuming the top one or two would get CL places but third and fourth would be less certain.
