The hypocrisy is mind boggling.

This is an enormous false equivalence. Neville spoke absolute sense and was entitled to.

Working for a broadcaster who's money has helped transform the Premier League (for both better and worse) is not remotely comparable to what is being proposed. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Sky and BT distancing themselves from broadcasting such a competition.

Agree with this totally.

also a bit baffled at the edgelords trying to pretend the PL/Sky/G Nev are equally as bad for the game so their opinions hold no value

I feel like football has been waiting to collapse in on itself for quite a few years. Maybe this will be what does it.

It may be uninteresting to a lot of European fans but the Asian Market will lap it up $$$$$

and there lies the problem. Tragic.

This. A decision entirely driven by Asian money

fwiw I'm fairly easy about the big (spuROFLs) 6 going. If Sky continue to back the domestic game then reckon they'll still be a half decent league left behind. Be nice if once it starts the press and Sky etc just stop talking about them

The national squad is rubbish anyway, and I care very little about it

So apparently the clubs involved are more interested in the "fans of the future" who tend to follow superstars rather than clubs and aren't too fussed if a percentage of "legacy fans" don't follow the new competition.

As mentioned above, both of the German giants have further distanced themselves from it today.

La Liga statement

LaLiga strongly condemns the recently published proposal for a breakaway, elitist European competition that attacks the principles of open competition and sporting merit which are at the heart of the domestic and European football pyramid

Today football fans across Europe can dream that their club, no matter the size, may excel, climb to the top and compete at the pinnacle of European football. LaLiga defends this European tradition of football for all

The concept proposed by 12 European clubs destroys that dream, shutting the door to the top of European football, allowing in just an elite few

The newly proposed top European competition is nothing more than a selfish, egotistical proposal designed to further enrich the already super rich. It will undermine the appeal of the whole game

This destruction of the European football ecosystem will also ultimately cause the failure of this new competition & its participating clubs, which have built their success based on the achievement of sports titles & triumphs, which will now be more limited

Rightly so Man United fans are furious re Munich air disaster and history

Can't wait to see what the likes of Klopp and Guardiola say in press conferences.

Klopp has cultivated an image of a guy who cares about integrity, will be interesting to see how he reacts.

Guardiola has to an extent attempted to cultivate a similar vibe, but it's unconvincing, he manages a club bank rolled by oil wealth, which represents #modernfootball more than almost any other.

PSG being the other one.

As the 6 Premier League Clubs involved are breaking rule 1.9 (about joining unsanctioned competitions) the punishment is obvious; expulsion from this season's competition and continued expulsion thereafter.

On top of that, neither the FA nor the Football League will sanction this, so the logical conclussion is that these clubs will now ONLY play in their "Super" League.

No FA Cup entry.

No players from those teams allowed to compete in UEFA or FIFA sanctioned competitions.

Going forward, what happens thereafter will be interesting; as the 6 teams will be expelled, would that mean that next season the top 6 teams from the Championship come in to replace them with no relegation from the Premier League this season, or - for the integrity of the competition - will the top 6 replace thaose expelled, relegtion from the Premier League happens as usual, and then teams in 7th and 8th get automatic promotion, with teams 9th-12th into the play offs?

What a mess!

What a mess!

If this were to happen and the 6 teams expelled, I think the cleanest way to do this would be to reprieve the bottom 3 of relegation and do promotion from the Championship as standard.
