European Super League

by Winston Biscuit » 18 Apr 2021 15:16

The Times are reporting that 5 English clubs, 3 Spanish and 3 Italian clubs are set to announce the creation of a European Super League tonight

Seems to be some confusion over whether Man City are part of it too making it 6 english clubs

It may be uninteresting to a lot of European fans but the Asian Market will lap it up $$$$$

Anyway if it does happen, will need a major rethink of the domestic leagues as could well see money dry up esp. if the bigger clubs essentially walk away/play weaker squads domestically.

I really want them to do it. I'm sick of these clubs.....let me go. Personally I think it will be boring, too much money at stake so dull football. I'm sick of their plastic fans and looking down their noses at clubs like us with their "we got more history" bollocks.......Hope Chelsea are one of them.
But be sure though, if they want to come back they start in the bottom tier.

How can it be a super league without the Germans or PSG?

If they announce it, I think they hope that the announcement will tip the balance. It could seriously backfire.

So boot the big six out next season..... Replace with top 6 with top 6 championship and also add 7th and 8th as automatic and a playoff between the next 4....job done....back in the Premier League :D

Quite happy for them to go tbh. They will just keep agitating for it anyway so just let them have their league and everyone else can crack on with things.

Hope the fans turn their backs on the clubs and the finance gap in the PL becomes smaller and the same between the top 2 divisions

Haven't FIFA already said players in a super league would be ineligible for the world cup? Doesn't this kill the idea in its tracks; what world class player would want to rule themselves out of the world cup?

It's a negotiation threat, though not sure what for given the compromises the bigger clubs have already won in the Champions League recently.

Let them go on the understanding that if they do there will be no coming back.

This would ruin football as we know it in this country. It needs a shake up, but this isn’t the one. As competitive as it would become, the Premier League becomes a non entity without these 6. The money will be pulled and they’ll be less interest in getting promoted.

I would genuinely hope the vast majority of fans of these clubs protest like fukk first and then stop supporting them in any form if it does.

Sadly this pandemic has shown these clubs that they don’t need fans in the stadium to be popular. This is only about money and if that’s the only motivator if it doesn’t happen now it will happen soon.

Boooooo!

Almost as hypocritical as UEFA slamming the proposals as cynical and financially motivated the day before they release their updated format which includes more clubs with some places being reserved for “big” teams failing to qualify as of right.
It’s football Jim but not as we know it!

The hypocrisy is mind boggling.

This is an enormous false equivalence. Neville spoke absolute sense and was entitled to.

Working for a broadcaster who's money has helped transform the Premier League (for both better and worse) is not remotely comparable to what is being proposed. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Sky and BT distancing themselves from broadcasting such a competition.
