Assume you are Lucas Neil (or potentialy Steve Sidwell)

Liverpool want to sign you. They offer £40,000 a week.
Big club, lots of history, regularly in europe, going places.
And then West Ham offer you a deal which would almost double your potential wages.
£70,000 a week. You have to think about your future. It's not a long career. You are going to be minted either way but who knows - you could get injured at any time.

So what do you do?

Take the money. Its not as if West Ham aren't capable of winning things so i'd rather be paid £70k a week and aim for that with a club such as West Ham than join a team like Liverpool and just be "another player", another player on £30k less too!!!

MiniRoyal Liverpool for me. No question. Finishing your career with 5 million or 10 million quid isn't going to drastically alter your standard of living.
Money can buy a lot of things but playing in cup finals, champion's league etc, even as a squad player, is something only a very few get to experience.

Yes it does - in a big way.

£5,000,000 in the bank will give you approx £250,000 a year (approx £150,000 after tax)

£10,000,000 will give you £500,000 a year (approx £300,000 after tax)

Both are a big drop if you have been on £70,000 a week (£3,640,000 a year - £2,184,000 after tax)

If it is just a job to you and it's just the cash you are after it's a no brainer.

Mini - think you are very fortunate that earning £150,000 or £300,000 would not make a huge difference to you!

Me? I am a money driven mercinary bastard so I would take the cash every time :D

Factor in win bonuses for games, trophies etc, as well as potential sponsorship you might end up better off at Liverpool.

He wouldn't have been first choice at Liverpool and they stand little chance of winning anything this season or for the next few years except the odd Carling Cup.

Exactly - which is basically the same as West Ham but you earn £30k more a WEEK for doing so!

There was nothing wrong with the Carling Cup last year, was there?

Who said there was anything wrong with it?

Liverpool have a fine history with it in recent years, they won it in 2001, 2003 and got to the final in 2005.

Got a feeling they will win it in 2008.

Definitley the cash, oxf*rd those clowns at Anfield. They haven't been near a title in recent memory, so it won't make all that much difference in league terms. Can't see anyone no taking the money in all honesty.

You can't win a title on penalties.
