Not only are Arsenal currently top of the Premiership, they also represent the most successful attempt by a top club to fight off foreign investors. Arsenal fans are wondering how long Russian billionaire Alisher Usamov will retain his 23 per cent stake in the club given that he has sustained a £20m loss. He was buying shares at their peak at around £10,500 each and they have now slipped back to £7,500. He thus paid over the odds for a stake that will never be enough to acquire the club. Arsenal directors have staged a 'lockdown' and agreed not to sell their shares for a two year period.
