Obviously I haven't read what the Sun has to say but the video tells me plenty of what I already knew about these 'fans'

Dirk Gently I was speaking to a quite high up police bod a few year agos. His view was “you only ever unleash riot police if you’ve already lost control of the situation, and as soon as you unleash them, you’ve lost control of them too”.

AndyRFC Interestingly enough though, some 'English' supporters are reported to have been the ones having a pop at old bill.

UEFA Cup Final riot: The police lost control
This meant that innocent people who had little knowledge of what was going on became embroiled through no fault of their own.
Some, taken by surprise, were simply not fast enough to outrun the police, who brought in vans and dogs.
...
However, no matter who was involved, the charge by the police was indiscriminate.
Anyone in their line of advance was a potential target, or so it seemed.

AndyRFC Cant say I've ever seen scenes quite like it and doubt I ever will again. Arriving at Piccadilly Gardens at 3.30ish and you couldnt move, we popped in the Wetherspoon to top up and it was a great atmosphere in there. The Fan Zone was rammed. You could not physically move for people or empty beer cans, we decided to head back out and attempt to find an offy and get some food and headed back to PG by six. It was clear that it was over packed then and thought it could get worse so we got out of there. Finding a Man City pub on Newton Street to watch the match, is was great. Live band before hand had everyone singing Simply the Best Didnt really know owt about the "riots" until after the game, Manc City council though just were not prepared enough for nigh on 150,000 Scotsmen turning up. I dread to think what would happen should England ever hold a World Cup again, we just don't have the infrastructure. Interestingly enough though, some 'English' supporters are reported to have been the ones having a pop at old bill.

Had the Strathclyde Police been there, then the "Rangers Lads" stupidity and violence would've been upstaged ..... and they would've known better than to "kick-off"AF1 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/7404185.stm
To be fair the copper looks like a nutter, clearly all those Rangers lads were lucky to get away unharmed
