Cuddly Scottish fans

by 1960 » 15 May 2008 14:32

With the rioting after the screen broke down can we now drop the old myth about the Scots being the decent law-abiding tartan army that they try to promote?

And btw it was reported that they were pelting the technicians who were trying to mend the screen. How bright is that?

I don't think it's fair to confuse all the decent Scottish football supporters with the scum that follow Rangers.

To be fair, the Scottish games I've been to and the fans I've met would tell you stories that put the English 'element' to shame.

To think that most clubs in Scotland, especially the likes of Aberdeen, the Dundee sides, the other Glasgow side, don't have some pretty serious trouble makers is a bit wide of the mark.

The famous tarten army is a great bit of marketing that covers up a minority of pretty violent people.

Last night was a joke, it might of been badly organised by the Manchester officials and this definitely added to the bad atmosphere but the behaviour of the fans was shocking. This is from someone who was there rather then basing it on all the news reports etc.

Having lived in Manchester for 5 years I am ashamed to say that last night was the worst and most dangerous I have ever seen it, and it was all down to football fans.

Lastly, I live this principal that somehow one clubs fans are worse then another clubs fans etc, get over it they're all the bloody same!

I donlt think its fair to confuse all decent football supporters anywhere (including the 30000 rangers fans that were inside the city of manchester stadium and behaved well) with the scum that attach themselves on to their coat tails when successful

Even lil old Reading has a minority elemnt of clowns as well (The scorpions anyone?)

200 idiots who chased the police, 40 arrests, against a backdrop of significantly over 100000 (with some agencies reporting over 200000) that were in and around the city

Not very, which is why they were trying to adjust it.

Having watched Celtic fans intimidate the ordinary folk of Milan last winter, this latest episode of Scottish 'football' violence does not surprise me. It is also worth remarking that violence was endemic at Old Firm derbies way before the fashion caught on south of the border.

Yeah people who say the Scorpions aren't real have no idea what really goes on. It might not always make the media these days because they are more careful.

However they're out there, waiting patiently to hear the almost soothing hum of the electric wheel-chair motor on the breeze- and to know that their time has come once again.

The Frog & Pickle on matchdays would suggest otherwise.

it has been mentioned in some quarters removed from the forth estate that a notorious section of chelsea "supporters" were in fact leading the lawlessness. i cannot,of course, swear to the accuracy of this scenario.

Will you stop putting this before every post. There is nothing funny about this whole topic.
1960, Suggesting scottish fans are mindless scum is laughable coming from the english, who have nearly been kicked out of every major tournament they've been in due to the trouble caused. Remember FIFA threatening to kick england out of euro 2000 they are that bad

Idle threats at a couple of tournaments does not equal "nearly been kicked out of every major tournament they've been in" !!!!

There is however something funny about bringing up police brutality after the shocking scenes recorded last week, as is bringing up behaviour of English fans as some kind of counter to it. I don't know what your link to Scotland is FR, I know you are a Rangers fan, but if you are an actual Scottish football fan then you should be ashamed of this behaviour, not trying to condone it.
