From Despair To Where? Belenenses had 17 players unavailable due to Covid so named all available players in the starting lineup.

Someone high up at the Portugese FA needs sacking for insisting the game went ahead. That's sort of shit only happens in Sunday League.

+1

And even then it wouldn't happen in Sunday League.

Do you remember in 1997 Middlesbrough went down because they refused to play a game against somebody due to illnesses and got fined 3 points, and they went down because of that game (well and the rest)

The issue with Middlesbrough was that they didn't give enough notice. That was because of an injury crisis. It was a daft decision even then but these days with a global pandemic of a highly infectious desease capable of infecting a whole squad in a matter of hours, it's madness from the Portugese FA and potentially risking the health of all the players involved.

I wonder if a different decision would have been made if it was Benfica and not Belenenses struck down with Covid.

Just to add to the farcical nature of it, the top 3 in the league are separated by only 2 points but Benfica have had a nice little jump on their GD, could be crucial come the end of the season.

It's more than a little surprising given the precautions Portugal are taking against COVID generally.

Shirley, given the game was abandoned, they can only get a 3-0 win out of it anyway

But as you say, it's Benfica

I thought that as well, but saw the following on Twitter: “ Regarding the doubt about whether the result stands, the league rules state that the team that is declared the winner due to lack of opposition players gets a 3-0 win, unless the score was already over 3-0 and in that case, the result stands.” - https://twitter.com/alexqueiros/status/1464723667376562176?s=21

Juventus vmbeing investigated for dodgy accounting and could see them stripped of their 2020 title and relegated again.

Was listening to a Serie A thing earlier and they were raving about Fiorentina's Dusan Flahovic and Sassuolo's Gianluca Scamacca as the 2 huge young talents in the league that will be going for a lot of money in the near future

Scamacca had scored a great goal against napoli yesterday. Very good player.

Vlahovic looks like becoming some player. 6ft 3ins, and no lack of pace for his size, scoring a goal a game this season.

£60m release fee. Seems like a no brainer for a big club to come in for him at that price. Wonder if Spurs could be interested? With Kane off next summer (probably) a January move for him would be sensible.

Benfica whomped 1-3 at home tonight by Sporting. - that'll hurt!

Oporto win 3-0 away at Portimonense and head the table on GD from Sporting with Benfica 4 points in arrears.
...assuming the table's up to date ....

PS Taraabt is still an obnoxious t*** 8)

Until I went to Lisbon had no idea how close their stadiums are. Just 5 mins apart along the same main road - about a 20 min walk apart.
