Winston Biscuit **non european alert**

Copa Libertadores (South American Champions League) semi final first legs were played this week.

Boca Juniors 0-0 Santos
River Plate 0-3 Palmeiras

Looks like there will be no final fun between River & Boca like there was in 2018

Final is at the Maracana later this month

Listened to a journalist this morning who said Palmeiras have been the favourites to win this from early on.

2nd legs tonight. Shout out to the Santos manager Cuca, who looks like someone you would come across in GTA

Sound the non-European football klaxon again...

Five years after most of their squad was wiped out in a plane crash and following relegation, Chapecoense have won promotion once more to the top division in Brazil.

Courtesy of a 95th minute equaliser and penalty shoot out. Means this season will be only the 3rd cup final since 2010 that doesn't feature Bayern.

Union Berlin keep up their unlikely push for a CL spot with a 1-0 win against Leverkusen.

Luka Jovic scored 25 goals in 54 games for Frankfurt. Earned a move to Madrid on the back of that. Had a nightmare there with 2 in 21 games for Real.

Returned to Frankfurt on loan. Came of the bench v Schalke after 62mins. Scores twice.

All in the last game for Frankfurt captain David Abraham before he returns to Argentina to end his career.

Jovic - 2 in 21 league games over 18 months. €60M transfer fee. €14.8M wages so far.

Hazard - 2 in 22 league games over 18 months. €146.1M transfer fee. €30.4M wages so far

A quarter of a billion euros for 4 goals

In all likelihood Hazards basic transfer fee paid is a fair bit lower tbh. Still, how the F can any business operate that way?! And how are the decision makers and those in charge still in a job?!

Been talk that Real Madrid have been trying to push PSG on a part swap deal involving Hazard & Mbappe. Would be great for them if they could get Mbappe

That'll probably see Neymar have a hissy fit and go to Barca then.

Hard to question Zidane given his ridiculous record at Madrid, but more broadly for his club and others like Barca and PSG, increasingly they just seem to be playing transfer whack-a-mole - buy a name, put him in the side, expect it to work. Whatever happened to coaching, player motivation, tactics? Hazard and Jokic don't just become useless overnight - and I don't believe become 'burdened by the shirt'. These clubs just seem to be poisonous.

The European Golden Shoe winners league over 54 years:

English league 6 times
Spanish League 15 times
Italian League - 3 times
Portuguese league - 7 times
German League - 2 times
Scottish league - 2 times
Welsh league - 1 time

Coefficient system coming in from the 96-97 season helped the big leagues get more and the Ronaldo & Messi factor is why La Liga is so far ahead of everyone else

Inter beat Juve 2-0, to go joint top of Serie A.

In related news, from March they will no longer go by their current official title of FC Internazionale Milano and will be known as Inter Milan. :|
New badge and looking likely they'll replace Pirelli as their shirt sponsors.
