Franchise FC
Winston Biscuit Cattadella went 1-0 up in the 2nd leg making it 1-1 on agg. Venezia then had a player sent off in the first half, Venezia then had another player sent off on 70 minutes, 2nd half was apparently just wave after wave of Cittadella attacks, Venezia then scored in injury time to make it 2-1 and they were promoted

(they would have been promoted if it stayed 1-1 though as they finished higher in the league)

I do like the idea that a draw counts for the team higher up the league

I think the Serie B play off system is great. They have really given it some thought as to rewarding the teams who have done better.

This is what I wrote a couple of years back on this thread:

If the team finishing 3rd is 10 points or more ahead of 4th place then they are automatically promoted and there are no play offs. If there are less than 10 points between 3rd and 4th then the play offs go ahead including the teams who finish within 14 points of 3rd place (down to 8th place in the league) meaning anywhere between 2 and 6 teams take part

If 6 teams take part then 3rd and 4th get a bye while 5th plays at home to 8th and 6th plays at home to 7th in a one off game. If it is a draw at the end then the team who finished higher in the league progresses through.

the winners of 6th vs 7th plays 3rd and the winner of 5th Vs 8th plays 4th in a 2 legged match. Away goals do not count, if it's a draw after both legs then the team who finished higher in the league progresses

final 2 teams play each other over 2 legs with the team finishing higher in the league getting the home leg 2nd and a draw means the team finishing higher in the league wins. If the teams draw and they are on the same points in the league then they go to extra time and penalties

Winston Biscuit been said for a while that RM told all players that because of the economic effects of Covid they would only be offering contracts out to existing players that were 10% less than they were currently receiving, and that older players would have to look at 1 year deals. Apparently all players said they understood this and accepted it. Some signed their new deals, including Modric, yet Ramos demanded a 2 year deal on increased wages of around €400k a week (having said not long ago he loves RM so much he would play for free), when he is 35 years old and featured in less than half their games last year

always get the impression he does as much off the field as he does on it. Reckon you would have 1 or 2 PL clubs interested in bringing in him.

Sounds like he and his Brother were hoping teams would come in with two year deals so they could force Real Madrid to offer Ramos the same. When that didn't happen he went back for the one year deal but they had signed Alaba as a replacement and the deal was off the table.

Now he has no deal at Real Madrid and nothing anywhere else (yet). Doubt with Covid, his age and recent injuries that he'll get an offer lucrative as the one he turned down.

Play stupid games and win stupid prizes.

Depressing thing is even under that system, we'd have missed the play-offs by 3 points last season.

After the tv rights deal in France collapsed last season leaving a number of clubs in a bad financial situation, BeIN Sports has now not made its first payment to French Ligue 2 clubs for their broadcasting deal and won't confirm if they will make the first payment for broadcasting rights for Ligue 1 which is due next month. Canal+ were also due to show matches for Ligue 1 but they pulled out of the deal last month (in a protest against sharing it with Amazon)

BeIN Sports is owned by the PSG owner, just to add some more spice to it

German stadiums will open again in August with a 25k or 50% capacity cap on attendance.

Ronald Koeman hopes players Barcelona want to sell or cancel the contracts of “will make an effort” to leave or cut their wages and help the club re-sign Lionel Messi to a new contract because, in the words of Koeman, the 34 year old is "important to the future of the club".

Ridiculous

Would gladly see the back of him I think now. I hope Sevilla and Atleti are going to be forces to come in the next few years.

already speculation that his contract has a clause to say that he can retire at any point during it and if he does he gets paid up for the rest of it, so he has apparently halved his wage, but if he retires in 2.5 years time he gets it all paid up matching his old contract

So in short, they are introducing rugby-style playoffs to end of season.

Enjoying the literal translation of (I assume) mid-table, as 'middle peasants.'

Just 22 league goals in 2 seasons for Barca, which is his return for their €120M transfer fee and €400k a week wages

Perhaps not having a fixed role has affected him. Playing on the left side of the front three last season, he scored 9 goals and made 8 assists, in 15 games.

Compared to Hazard that still seems like a bargain....

Also at Atletico he was the main man there, not so much with Messi
