1-1 with Charlton still. Barnsley beating Forest too. Bad day for Saints so far, or bad week, even bad few years actually.

Saintly Saviour....

by Turns8 » 05 Apr 2009 17:38

I have it on good authority that the FA will meet on Tuesday to discuss the future of administration stricken Southampton and rumour has it that they want to make an example of them to discourage future clubs from trying to use the holding company smokescreen to avoid any points deduction.

The club is set to go out of business with immediate effect as it won't be able to meet the league's requirements and they don't have enough money to even be able to fulfill their remaining fixtures

As a result the league will be forced to scrap Southamptons results for the games already played

This will mean that the following teams will have the following points deducted from their current totals:
Wolves 3pts
Brum 6pts
Reading 1pt
Sheff Utd 4pts

Which will have the new table looking like this:

Wolves 74pts
Reading 68pts
Brum 66pts
Sheff Utd 65pts
Burnley 63pts...

What a result....

Things don't look so bad afterall....

Would be a pity to see our promotion push enhanced by this as a demise if a football team is never good to see but, I will take it.

Cannot see it happening though.

I can't see this honestly happening and it would be a shame if it did in my view.

I read somewhere that their Bankers had reduced their overdraft facilty and have threatened to call in the debt meaning there is a real threat from that perspective of them being unable to run the club day to day.

If that happens it will be an Accurington Stanley situation and they will be removed from the league. :)

It's true...the league really want to clamp down on teams running with big losses and have decided that points deduction don't serve a strong enough purpose...other than to unfairly punish clubs like Luton who have fought so hard to stay afloat but could still go under...if they get relegated...

Therefore, Southampton (more commonly known as the biggest club on the planet) will be made an example of and although the club may be allowed to continue under a new name ie Saints FC for example, they will have to start off in Div 2. With the Championship only having 2 teams officially relegated.

To actually wish a club to go out of business in order to win a false promotion is all a bit bizarre in my opinion.
