Totally fvcks over Wycombe doesn't it. How can they plan for the season if they don't know what league they'll be in. Makes any recruitment pretty much impossible "yeah, we'll pay this this much if we're in the Championship and half that if Derby get away with it again." Any player with an offer from another Championship club won't think twice about it. When do relegation clauses kick in for player's wages? Will Wycombe suddenly have to find a couple of months back pay having cut wages at the end of the season? Have any of their players already left the club for other championship clubs.

Opens up an interesting legal option to pursue losses / costs from Derby.

More likely from EFL than Derby.

If it was from Derby they'd be seriously screwed financially (as if they're not already)

Yes a 100k fine doesn’t really seem a punishment to a club like Derby.

The FL statement read

"While the EFL does not agree that those sanctions are commensurate to the breaches found, following consultation with our legal advisors, the EFL Board has regrettably determined that there are insufficient grounds to appeal the sanction imposed by the Independent Disciplinary Commission."

I can only assume that the EFL know that Derby will be proper fcuked when they resubmit their accounts so its pointless throwing money at an appeal when they know they've already got them by the bollocks.

A Derby fan I know has posted (elsewhere, obviously) that he’s glad it’s over and they can start rebuilding.

I haven’t got the heart to tell him ...

Barcelona seem to finally be taking their finances more seriously. So far they have only brought in free transfers and they are reportedly on a basic wage of €5M per year (€100k/£82k per week).

They are now looking to offload some high earners too. Spanish press say they have offered to cancel the contracts of Umtiti and Pajanic. Pjanic was signed last summer for €60M and is on €300k a week. He has reportedly said no as he wants his €45M wages still owed over the next 3 years.

Their fans have been angry with the owner for a while. they see him as nothing more than a conman. There is something about the new proposed training ground that riled them up but i don't remember all the detail. Got planning permission on a big site for the new training complex then after it was given went back in and changed it so the site included a load of houses he would sell and a horse racing, or summat.

A write up on the mess that is Barcelona right now

Though he made a typo which he corrected elsewhere, they need to lower their wage bill by €200m

If things are really that bad for Barca and Madrid, La Liga could decline like Serie A, which would not be good for the game globally. They only have themselves to blame though.

I don't think those 2 having to be more in line with others impacts the game badly. Gives others a chance and means talent just goes elsewhere

Have to agree there. Barca and Real have been financially doped for so long that a correction is probably long overdue. La Liga will always remain a pull for players and may prove to be more so if the likes of Sevilla, Villerreal etc have a better chance of taking the title and get in to the CL.

It's quite scary that Barca can't currently afford to register Messi (if he wants to stay) despite the fact he makes them money.

For those interested in such things, may I just flag a programme going out next Monday (9th August) at 9pm on Al Jazeera:

“Al Jazeera Investigations : The Men Who Sell Football”: The I-Unit goes undercover to expose how English football clubs can be bought by criminals and become vehicles to launder the proceeds of their crimes.

From what I understand, this will definitely be of interest to RFC supporters.

Although not many people can get Al Jazeera, they live stream it and add it to Youtube to make it more accessible.
