Hoop Blah I totally agree it's a bit of a daft situation but unless all the European leagues kick off on the same date how are they going to align the window to the start of the season?

This ^

Spain and Italy only kicked off this weekend just gone....

So you need to have a set date that fits all

TBM Benzema to Arsenal almost complete - £48.5m

Is having a medical either today or at some point this weekend

No guarantee, because the manager rarely makes these decisions at Madrid.

Again, no guarantee, but looks like the player isn't interested in moving either:

Why can't each league have a different cutoff for incoming deals ?

Pepe the Horseman West Brom have rejected a tranny request from Berahino. Can't see this ending well.

It would need to be deals both ways, as clubs have to name their competition squads.

But again, I'm not sure why that would be a problem. If United want to sign anyone, they should have to do it before the season starts. If clubs want to buy a United player, they should have to do it before the season starts. I don't see what problem that creates.

Realistically though the major clubs in the major European leagues dictate the transfer market and the merry-go-round is often kick started by one or two big moves which trickle activity around the leagues.

Not allowing United to buy a player from Real at the same time as AC Milan or PSG can just because our league kicks off a week earlier would put them at a disadvantage in Europe and just wouldn't really help anyone would it?

The windows are slightly different for the major European leagues at the moment, but only by a matter of hours, not weeks.

Perhaps such a change would lessen the impact of 'the major clubs in Europe dictating the transfer market.'

Another box ticked for me.
