And a swap for Saul

Bad move for Atleti. Griezmann is not the player he was.

Interesting story with former German goalkeeper Rene Adler having launched an app to help players transfer.

He called it 'the tinder of football transfers' as you get to load your (verified) profile in there along with current basic contract details but you are kept anonymous, and clubs also register on there and can search for players based on a criteria they want. If there is a match then the profile is revealed and the 2 can talk. It launched 2 weeks ago and he says hundreds of players have already registered and quite a few top clubs, including some in England have too

If it leads to a transfer then the player pays nothing but the buying club pays commission to the app in line with the FIFA recommended amount (currently 3% of player wages)

Makes a change for a Chelsea loanee to actually leave the club. Miazga is still there, he's played twice for Chelsea in six years. Probably won't beat Piazon's record though of three games in a decade.

I'm quite shocked nobody has taken a punt on Miazga. Would do a job for most midrange Premier League/European League sides.

Don’t think Miazga is a midtable Prem player

He was decent for us and certainly helped us stay up that first season but considering we had Ilori and McShane (at his worst) prior to his arrival, I think anyone would have looked good comparatively

Was stuck behind Moore and Morrison for periods last season

Palace have signed Guehi from Chelsea on a five year deal - good signing that, very good player for Swansea

With Palace potentially having a front four of Eze (when fit), Zaha, Olise and a ST (possibly Mateta?) think they’ll be a strong team in the next couple of years
Couple of positions mainly needed (CM in particular) and a bit of patience with Vieira (more than the 4 games they gave FDB) and who knows what will happen

Obviously Roy did well there but was becoming a bit of a safe option. May come back to regret this (Ipswich getting rid of McCarthy etc) but think they’ve made the right decision to take this season for a new approach

Lokonga and White look like a couple of solid signings. But Arteta really needs to get more out of what is a talented squad this season.

Football finances. Funny old game. You've got United buying Sancho for €90m, rumoured to be in for Kane, and signing Varane. Whereas Klopp and Liverpool are, apparently, having to shift 8 or 9 squad players in order to afford any additions. Then you've got PSG continuing to spend money like they breathe air, but Barcelona asking players to take pay cuts just so that they can register free transfers. All very bizarre.

Not sure that I feel like the transfer of young players is managed well enough by FIFA. Reading that in April this year, City agreed the signing in Jan 2022 of two 18 year old Brazilians, both touted as part of Brazil's 'new generation' - Kayky and Metinho - from Fluminese, for a combined €15m. Not sure how work permits will work, neither is even close to the international setup. So they'll end up loaned around for a couple of years at least, and to what end?

Probably something I'm overlooking - but would it be really damaging to the prospects of young footballers, or the leagues that they play in, if FIFA didn't sanction transactions where the transferred player can't get a work permit in the country of his new club? Similarly, was just reading that Liverpool's Taiwo Awoniyi has finally received a work permit after six years 'with the club'. He's 23, has had seven loan spells in Belgium and Germany, and now Liverpool are trying to shift him on for €10m.

was listening to an interesting interview yesterday with someone on how 3rd party ownership/fan ownership of players has changed. It was the case for years that anyone could buy some kind of ownership of a player in, say, Brasil, it would help their club keep them for longer and then the investor would make a profit when sold off for big bucks to Europe. FIFA banned that a few years back, so now instead fans are investing in very small clubs who then have money to sign someone, and a few days after joining he moves on again for big money and the club investor then gets a profit

Winston Biscuit Izzy Brown's Chelsea contract runs out (how is he only 24?!) and he joins Preston on a 1 year deal

are 1 year deals part of 'the new normal'?

He must be the most unlucky footballer - he’s suffered a ruptured Achilles in training - will be out for a long period

Seems to have played for about 8 different clubs but he cannot stay fit

Ben White to Arsenal is weird. He is a good player that should be at a better team. I have no oxf*rd idea why Spurs would not move heaven and earth to try get him where they need a CB.

50 mill for a 21 year old CB with 1 years PL experience.... wasn't too long ago I lol-d at Maguire and his price.

Well if he should be at a top four side then £50m is a snip. I think it's a good move for him. The pressure at somewhere like United would be immense. If he maintains anywhere near his Brighton form he'll be pretty much guaranteed first choice at Arsenal, so he'll get games.
