I watched the real magpies Maidenhead at home to Weston Super Mare, not the worst game I've seen but few chances and a just about deserved win for the away side.

Witney Town 0 - 2 Ascot United, FA Vase. Fantastic performance from Yellamen (although we were in white-blue playing against all yellow). Very happy tonight 8)

Round-up of yesterday's scores:

Sat 13th Oct

FA Vase 1st Round

55 Colney Heath 3-2 Sporting Bengal United - got here w/o bother - roads eerily quiet for a Sat PM - though apparently the M25 was scr£wed all day anti-clockwise (again!)
Nice set-up, middle-of-nowhere in as rural a place as south Herts gets - nr St Albans. Both sides very good on the ball; away side - primarily Bangladeshi of origin though a few 'non-Asians' in the team - were wasteful with the greater number of chances they had - espeically 1 on 1's with the keeper.
Oddity : Sporting Bengal have recently 'switched' from playing Kent league (w/o much success) to the Essex League and currently play in the Mile End Stadium. Programme described them as a representative side for all Bengalis in the UK. Good luck to them - they must face a continual wave of prejudice playing in that part of the world.
I cringed a bit in the bar, before the match, when the home officials were 'jokingly' struggling to prepare for the PA announcement from their visitors' team sheet for that day.
- hope this kind of thing had nothing to do with the switch - on the field they are good to watch.

57 Oxhey Jets 1-1 Hanwell Town
58 AFC Dunstable 1-3 Hatfield Town
60 Clapton 0-3 Cockfosters
61 Barking 0-3 Dunstable Town
62 Hanworth Villa 2-0 Wembley
63 Hoddesdon Town 3-5 Hertford Town
64 Witney Town 0-2 Ascot United
66 Thame United 3-2 Fairford Town att 213
68 Sandhurst Town 1-8 {EIGHT} Wantage Town
69 Amersham Town 4-3 Flackwell Heath aet - possibly a bigger shock than Ascot winning at Witney
70 Cheltenham Saracens 1-2 Ardley United
72 Holyport 1-4 Newbury
73 Pagham 2-2 Horsham YMCA aet
74 VCD Athletic 0-0 Erith & Belvedere aet
75 Sevenoaks Town 2-4 Ash United
76 Littlehampton Town 2-1 Beckenham Town
77 Erith Town 3-2 AFC Croydon Athletic
78 Egham Town 2-3 Lordswood
79 Lingfield 1-2 Colliers Wood United
80 Lancing 0-5 Peacehaven & Telscombe
81 St Francis Rangers 0-2 Croydon
82 Rye United 3-2 Horley Town
83 Whyteleafe 2-3 Guernsey
84 Deal Town 2-0 Hassocks
85 Frimley Green 2-1 Canterbury City aet
86 Christchurch 1-3 Horndean aet
87 Longwell Green Sports 2-0 Calne Town
88 Moneyfields 6-0 Hallen
89 Fawley 1-2 Bemerton Heath Harlequins
90 GE Hamble 3-1 Bristol Academy
91 Cadbury Heath 3-2 Hayling United
92 Blackfield & Langley 5-1 Westbury United
93 Swanage Town & Herston 0-2 Newport (IW)
94 New Milton Town 2-1 Alton Town
95 Downton 2-1 Petersfield Town
96 Saltash United 0-1 Buckland Athletic
97 AFC St Austell 4-3 Bovey Tracey
98 St Blazey 2-1 Barnstaple Town
99 Street 0-1 Odd Down
100 Exmouth Town 1-2 Sherborne Town
101 Bodmin Town 3-2 Brislington
...if needed: Explanation re 'aet' above - if a Vase Tie is level at FT it will normally go to 30min extra time. It can then be decided on the day with penalties - if both sides and the Ref have agreed beforehand - gets a bit flaky here, as in practice, the period for agreement seems to be pretty fluid - and certain verbal agreements have been withdrawn etc etc :? .
Generally, ties that have been agreed in advance to go to penalties, have 'special' circumstances about them - ie one side travelling long distances (Guernsey) or sometimes if the away side 'groundshares' making a replay awkward to arrange?
I have been at a tie where at FT, no-one present knew the correct wording of the rule (not even the Ref nor a League Official that happened to be present) and frenzied calls were being made to League Secretaries etc - chaos  .

Windsor losing with another new look side. I'm going to guess most of Windsor players don't fancy it today and would rather play for their sunday league sides. Wouldn't expect to pay to watch them in pub league so why should non-die hards bother to pay when they have a different kit on!

Christ alive even SDR was capable of looking on the bright side occasionally.

Sunday's got nothing to do with it.

I guess it could be the 'usual' turnover at the moment! That said i know people who've turned down the chance to play because they play with mates on a Sunday and don't fancy Saturday, Sunday and sometimes Monday football.

....and here's this PMs Results in the Vase:

Sun 14 Oct
56 London Lions 2-1 Codicote aet
59 Hadley 4-4 Berkhamsted aet
65 Wokingham & Emmbrook 0-1 Marlow aet - att 202 - - was here : harsh on 'Sumas' but Marlow looked the more threatening for longer periods. Home sides' plight not enhanced by a straight red on approx 30' following an horrendous lunge over the ball in midfield. Marlow LB down for a very long time as a result - couldn't be moved. Paramedics/Ambulance called - suspected broken leg. :( Sumas created a few half chances but late 2nd half Marlow brought on 'Big Bad' Marcus Richardson and his guile, know-how and all round nuisance value eventually created an opening early in ET. Marlow's other 'big' players also picked up & delivered in ET and were a constant menace with the ball - but Wokkers had competed gamely with 10 men for well over the 90'.
67 Aylesbury United 0-2 Kidlington - bit of an upset - 'Ducks currently flying high  in 2nd in the SSMP - Kiddy have been struggling at the wrong end of the Hellenic but I think I've read they've got in a few more players recently.

There are various problems, some of which are caused by the ex-manager and his sidekick, others are that not everyone wants to train twice a week. Woodham has made it clear to everyone, no matter how experienced / good they think they are, if they are not prepared to put the same amount of work as everyone else then they won't have a place at Stag Meadow.

the lad sent off for Wokingham is someone I know, heard it was one of the worst challenges you're ever likely to see. Certainly no appeal!

Know a Marlow player too who was sickened by the challenge but glad they got the win for their player.

SYCOB manager Bryon Walter quits. I do wonder what SYCOB will do once Slough leave. Clearly spent the extra money on wages as they don't have the crowds. What a waste.

That's Byron, not Bryon of course.

I wonder what's gone on there then as they were in play-off places.

Dave Mudge would be an obvious candidate for the position I guess. Maybe Byron, who was assistant at Windsor & Eton under Mudge, still well-liked at Windsor I believe, and with good local contacts, might pop up at Stag Meadow to help out a bit. Woodham was working under Walton before taking the job at Windsor.

What an incestuous little world the non-league in Berks and Bucks is!!

Hearing its work commitments via the grapevine!

Really is underestimated how much time 'staff' put into the clubs for little gain. I've said for a while smaller more local leagues is the way forward especially in hard times. Most clubs have no real ambition or ability to grow so why dangle the carrot

Slough's plan to go back get a home gains momentum. Still a long way to go wouldn't be shocked if they moved to Stag Meadow before they finally get home as it's a better pitch and easier to get to from Slough. IF slough can get a ground at home and actually own it the town has the potential to support a club much higher up the food chain. Granted alot of people in the town have no emotional attachment to the town and London and the premiership is just a 15 min train trip away but if they can tap into that potential they could easily be a big conference south side

c/o Windsor Observer...

(SYCOB Chairman) Woolman told the Observer: "Byron is stepping down because of business commitments, he works all over the country as a roofer.

"It is disappointing in one way but we have just got to concentrate on moving the club forward.

"He will take charge tonight (home v Chesham United, Red Insure Cup first round, 7:45pm kick off) and he will still be here next Monday. He'll be here until we appoint a new manager.

"We will see who applies but it definitely won't be Dave Mudge or Keith Scott."
