Premier League to set up school?

by Stranded » 04 Aug 2010 14:24

It seems the PL is looking at setting up it's own education system thanks to the free school policy.

Similar in style to drama schools, where the best kids will get more training and still get an education. Could raise contact training time from 5 hrs per week to 20 hours.

Interesting development for English football I'd say.

Love to be a fly on the wall during the economics lesson. "And everyone lived happy ever after thanks to nice Mr Sky, whilst the evil Taxman was banished forever"...

So would it be similar to that Barcelona football school academy prison thing?

It'd be expanding the clubs' academies. They'd be able to get more training and football out of their academy kids if the didn't have to keep shipping them out to schools to be educated. This way they can own their lives lock, stock and barrell and have complete control over them.

Which is pretty much what Ajax have been doing for a ridiculous number of years. I wonder how many such schemes would be allowed to operate?

It's all down to Cameron's new idea of letting local communities setup their own services.

We have such a system already in place (which seems to be working fairly well)...just have to hope we still fund it for a few years.
