RUMOUR: Mike Havenaar

by Reading4eva » 22 Jun 2013 20:16

A very reliable source (broke news we were in for Ince, Gylfi and Drenthe) mentioned we are in for Mike Havenaar. Know very little about him, but understand he plays in Holland. Are we getting a tangerine feel about our team?

He plays for Japan actually.

(He was a sub during the italy game)

Any good?

Mike isn't a name I'd associate with Japan to be honest

The OP said he plays IN Holland, not for Holland. He does indeed play for Japan, but plays for Vitesse.

Would be happy if this goes through, from the few Vitesse matches I have watched he has seemed pretty decent so yeah hope this happens :)

My bad.

Tbh, i thought he was still playing in japan. He's inconsistent but i think he's a better version of alf when he's on form

Just as reliability isn't something we associate with you.

Really? He's 6ft 4in. Doesn't he score a lot of goals with his head?

Yes, but he's Japan's 'super-sub' ;) he always seems to be at the right place in the right time too. He appears to be a more complete and skilled forward instead of alf who just relies on his acceleration and finishing. But i don't think the physical side of english football will suit havenaar. He falls over way too easily. And we already have pog for that!

With Wilfried Bony attracting a lot of interest too I'd be very surprised if Vitesse sold their two best strikers this summer, especially as they now have the finances to challenge the likes of Ajax, PSV and Twente. Would be a solid replacement for Pog if we do sign him and Pog leaves.

He's a giant in a team of small people!

He seems better than Carroll or Crouch, and can't be any worse then the Pog. He doesn't look Japanese though? I'm confused... Was his parents born somewhere else?

Was disappointed when I saw who the OP was, because this is a signing I'd quite like to happen.

Never heard of him. Sure he would be hungry to make a name for himself in England.

Wiki says of his background:

"Havenaar's parents came to Japan from the Netherlands in 1986 when his father Dido signed on to play for Hiroshima-based side Mazda F.C. of the Japan Soccer League (now Sanfrecce Hiroshima of the J. League). His mother was an athlete and a former national champion in the heptathlon. His younger brother Nikki currently plays for Nagoya Grampus youth team and U-17 Japan as centre back. The Havenaar family became naturalized Japanese citizens in 1994."

Certainly sounds like he'll be a good all round athlete. His current contract with Vitesse runs to summer next year so may also be a good time to take a chance on him
