Ground share

by TFF » 03 May 2015 12:55

Rumour I heard a few weeks ago via a rugby contact and that's surfaced again on another forum

Griffin Park isn't up to PL standards so if 'plucky' Brentford make it through the play offs they'll be playing at the Mad with Irish moving to their place.

Is that even allowed by PL rules and regs? Bournemouth should share with Southampton as well

Don't know if PL rules allow for that, but if they did, I would imagine Brentford would therefore have first pick on match days?? How would the FL/RFC react to that?

Being brutally practical, as long as we get significantly more per season from Brentford than we are currently from LI, (15k per match is it currently?), I would have thought the bean counters would be lapping this up.

Absolute crap. We already have a ground share with LI so just when would Brentford be expected to squeeze their home games in?

You obviously haven't read the whole thing. If Brentford share with us then Irish would go to Brentfords ground.

I'd definitely prefer to share with another football club rather than egg-chasers who destroy the pitch! But surely QPR or Fulham would be easier for them as fans will be able to use oyster cards to get there still.

Cant see this happening. Wont do Reading any good, any neutral fans would go and watch the Prem game instead of Reading.

There are more local grounds in around London for Brentford to share with I would imagine.

Imagine the furore if it happened and we drew them away in the cup?

A second football team would do much more damage than a rugby team.

London Irish would need a huge bribe to move out for just one season, would half their support in one go, which they cannot afford.

The rugby is a good fit for a share but the football would be much more complicated to fit in with both teams playing midweek games and fixtures having to be constantly rearranged.

Any detail on why Griffin Park supposedly is not up to PL standards ? Would be amazed if they were different to Championship standards to be honest. If Blackpool, Burnley and QPR are good enough then can't see why Griffin Park wouldn't be....

"not up to standards" is the sort of speculative nonsense people who have no idea what they are talking about suggest, and you then get people believing it because they've read it online.

There are requirements, but oddly they refer to changing room sizes, media facilities etc. There's nothing at all about ground capacity, nor do premier league grounds have to be all-seater, as is often claimed.

Premier League rule K.7. Spectators admitted to a Stadium shall be offered only seated accommodation, the majority
of which shall be covered, and there shall be no standing terraces.

Not that means ground sharing at the Madejski though.

When did that change?

Craven Cottage had terracing for a few years in the premier league.

I can 100% rule-out Brentford ground sharing with us at Madejski Stadium.

They've already got an informal agreement somewhere else, but probably not a wise idea for me to say where as I don't think it's public knowledge yet.

Can't see us letting a relatively local club play Premier League football here, whilst they pinch the fair-weathers at the same time. There are far better and IMO more likely options available to them a lot closer to home.

One of the biggest cons of recent years. Fulham knew that even then you weren't allowed terracing in the PL but rather than spend money on Craven Cottage they spent huge sums on players, wages and high profile managers with the stated intention of reaching the top flight. When they did so they claimed they needed special dispensation to continue using terraces. should have been refused promotion as they could and should have sorted the ground rather than throwing millions at the team.
I don't think the rules actually bar terracing even now, clubs would just not be allowed to use the terraced areas.

Very close to Wembley who are desperately trying to pay back the cost of the Stadium and who aren't getting the secondary spend they'd like in the gig market. Lower stands only, basically unlimited away support capacity?

How much do you reckon it costs to hire Wembley ?
I reckon they'd blow their PL windfall on paying for an empty ground.....

Wembley gets a first call on the gate to cover operating costs +15% with a 70/30 split over that call?

I don't know how much it costs to put the lights on at Wembley but it can't be anywhere near the half a million 20,000 admits at £30 each would cost.

Bit of silliness of course, but i'm sure it could be made to work if they really wanted to.
