Rumour-Rickie Lambert

by BR2 » 18 Aug 2016 11:05

Have heard from an unreliable source that he is desperate for first team football and, for family reasons, would sooner be living down south.
Brighton don't need him and Pompey is too far down the leagues so, other than an emotional return to Bristol Rovers we could represent an attractive proposition for him.
He is 3 months younger than Kermorgant who has not exactly set the world alight after his ridiculous signing by Mc Dermott where we supposedly paid a fee of £500,000.

I am all for long term planning and like the idea that we have signed young players like Swift and Evans and Sandro is 23 but we are very short both physically and in ability up front so I feel that a 2-year deal for Lambert might not be the worst signing to bring some nous and strength to our front line.

So this is SPECULATION instead of a RUMOUR?!

Anyway you have Cardiff, QPR, Fulham & Bristol City also in our league who are "down south"

Er...Cardiff is in Wales, he would never go to Bristol City as a gashead folkhero and both Fulham and QPR are in that shithole known as London so on geographical grounds I think we would be in the mix.

You didn't say it had to be in England - you just said "down south"

Cardiff is only a couple of hours away from Southampton, where i presume his missus is from

Reading is about 45 minutes from Southampton-don't want to be a pedant but Cardiff is in another f*****g country and is a pain to get to from down this way.
You also have to pay money every time you cross that bridge into Wales so , with Rickie most likely taking a pay cut,he will probably need to watch the pennies.

Is he foreign or a midfielder (or preferably both) ? If not there is no chance of signing him.

:D

He's a scouser which, to a number of people on here, means that he is a foreigner.

I would say that your source is very unreliable, he has been in talks with Hull about a 1 year deal with a possible extension based on games played/goals, and HULL certainly isnt "down south"

I would love it be true though, there are older strikers who cant hit a cows arse with a banjo (Kermi) and older strikers who will just always score goals (Lambert)

Apparently Le Fondre is at a bit of a loose end at the moment as well

I wonder who there is to talk to at Hull these days.

I'd like to see Lambert here. After all he's an English international like Les Ferdinand and Martin Keown.

:D I get your point but he is younger than Kermorgant that we forked out £500,000 on and he doesn't score goals nor bring much else to the team.
I hope this is now a turning point for Yann and he goes on to be our player of the season.

So, with Jay Rodrigues now having moved to West Brom does that make Rickie more likely to move on?
I read that Hull have been looking far and wide (Rickie qualifies on one count) for strikers so maybe there is no interest in a move for him.
As each game goes by our need for a hold-up striker with a physical presence who can also score goals looks to be more and more urgent.
