At least if we can claw him back in even on loan we will have a decent keeper

Very overrated keeper - had just as many bad games as good and let too many soft goals in on near post.

As opposed to our current keepers who are weak at the near post, far post, centre of the goal, top right corner, top left corner, bottom right corner, bottom left corner and can't kick the ball to save their lives.

Federici and Mannone are the same. Both good shot stoppers and both have a mistake in them.

NO THANK YOU TO BOTH!!!

Southwood should be in the side now. Shame he’s out on loan.

Our keepers are so poor as kickers of the ball and average shot stoppers that I'd probably take him back in a heartbeat. Problem is he makes a fair few howlers as well.

Federici was better than Mannone has ever been for Reading. Whether he would be as good as he was having spent years as a back up keeper is doubtful.

Yes he made mistakes, sadly in some big games but he also won us a lot of games as well. Can only think of QPR as a game that Mannone has kept us in. Mannone is the worst established keeper, who has had a significant amount of games, that we've had since before Phil Whitehead was signed.

I get the feeling that the months loan is a start to easing him into the team. Give him some 1st team games then be our No.1 by the end of the month with Mannone and one of Walker/Jaakkola off as well.

Talking of keepers, with Alex Mc Carthy dropping to the bench last night for Saints and Gunn replacing him I was wondering if Fraser Forster was still around.
Maybe he would fancy a few months up the road to get first team action again.

Talking of Saints players I see that Rangers are trying to get Steven Davis back but wages appear to be a problem.
We know that there is very little money around for wages in Scottish football so maybe he would fancy making the fairly short journey up the road for the next 5 months along with Forster.
IMHO he would be ideal as a player knitting together our midfield with Rhino and Bacuna around to do his running for him.
If we can fork out £1million in wages for O'Shea then these sort of players should be within our reach for half a season.

Neither would be long-term solutions but we need a shortish team fix.
While we are at it let's loan Loader to Exeter and get Jayden Stockley (a player similar to Mc Burnie of Swansea) who can score goals and is a real physical presence.

I see also that Wolves centre-back (?Hause) who we were once supposedly interested in is supposedly available.

We just then need only about 10 more.

Hopefully Gomes' advisers do actually know players in English football.

Vic, Stockley has gone to Preston, undisclosed.

Sounds like Hause is going to Villa...

That's the problem with being a keeper, everyone remembers the big mistakes (every single keeper makes some) and not the numerous fantastic saves.
Reading needed the post and keeper Adam Federici to keep the scores level
Federici, who would later leave the pitch in tears, produced a wonderful one-handed save to claw out Gabriel's header as Arsenal looked to get themselves back in front

Meanwhile strikers get let off the hook for their mistakes - I seem to remember the game could have been over prior to Fed's mistake, had Pog not wasted a golden opportunity.

Pogrebnyak wasted good territory when Reading found themselves two-on-one as the game became increasingly stretched but neither side could find a winner as it headed into extra time.

We could have matched Preston as all our transfers are undisclosed. :|

He is the son of a mate of a mate - we could have picked him up at the end of last season for not very much and went for Mc Nulty instead.
The rest is history.

Federici wasn't good enough when he was here. Sadly, we're so shit now, if he could play like he did then, he's easily good enough to improve us.

Wasn't good enough for what, Ian? Not good enough for a club like Reading? In which case you are talking out of your backside. He was part of a long line of keepers who meant that we didn't have to worry about the goalkeeping department until Mannone and Jaakkola rocked up.

Wasn't good enough for the Premier League? Maybe. Although there were quite a few who played for us in the PL in our last campaign up there that definitely weren't good enough for that division.

Federici was good for Reading as was McCarthy, bar his distribution. And so were the likes of Marcus and Whitehead before them.
