goalkeepers are not hard to replace as there are plenty of decent frustrated number two's out there looking for first team football. If we can sell and find an adewuate replacement for the same or less money then i see no problem with this.

Hmmm, not convinced by that argument.

Recent keeper acquisitions being
Cabral - good
Virginia (loan) - shit
Martinez (loan) - great
Walker - mediocre
Jaakkola - mediocre
Mannone - mediocre
Bond - not great
Al-Habsi - great

We're making a bit of a ham fist of it.

Hence my concern over a replacement, especially at this late stage.

Michel Vorm is a free agent, he would be a good replacement in the short term.

Tbf jaakkola, Walker and probably AAH originally were only ever really signed as cheap back up and they’ve done an ok job of that

Hendo Anssi was probably the right ‘keeper at the wrong time. Good shot stopper, but pretty poor with the ball at his feet, which is what the manager was looking for.

Totally agree with this. Couldn't kick for tuppence

Notts Royal Good keeper but not amazing...would probably put him in the same bracket as Federici & Al-Habsi, but not as good as Hislop, Hahnemann, McCarthy or Martinez.

Wouldn’t be crying if we lost him, like some of the Twitter kids, but also would be happy seeing him line up for us

Similar but I'd say Al-Habsi is ahead, whereas McCarthy isn't.

Without wanting to bring the Federici v McCarthy argument back up lol, I thought McCarthy was brilliant in that play off spell, and then outstanding in some of the prem games, that Liverpool game was something else. Very solid in the Adkins Champ season but others thought he was average. Has gone on to have a decent career in the Prem. Federici was perhaps a better fit for the team though, there must’ve been a reason why Brian selected him more often.

Cabral is good, but not convinced he’s up there with the best in the division. Birmingham have just signed Etheridge from Cardiff which is a brilliant signing. Not sure why Cardiff sold him...was he injured last season?

Nah, I preferred McCarthy to Fed. But I think Al-Habsi was top tier, with Hahnemann, Martinez and Shaka. Think Cabral is like a good Mannone, rather than just a bit average, he's good all round but not outstanding.

To be fair to Mannone, if he was on half the wage, I don't anywhere near as many people would have had an issue with him, but of you're in top money you need to put in top performances more often than not.

Yeah that pretty much. If he was a free/ average wages I’d think back on him a lot more fondly

Ye-ah. He'd still be a pretty bang average keeper and not really good enough though.

Can’t believe Arsenal are looking to bid £10m for David Rays from Brentford. From what I’ve seen, Rafael is just as good, if not better.

FWIW Martinez is almost certain to be in the Championship next season unless he’s negotiated a relegation clause

I’d put Rafael just behind Raya, think Raya has had a few good seasons and is good with his feet.

WRT Emi and Villa, I think they’ll be fine this year. I don’t think they’re almost certain to go down.

Goalkeeper hot takes:

Shaka = Marcus = Al-Habsi
McCarthy
Federici = Martinez
Rafael = Ashdown
Mannone
(Boring mass of meh)
Bond = Sheppard
Van der Kwaak = Virginia

I’d have Martinez up there with the best keepers we have ever had.

Unpopular opinion but Al Habsi was criminally over rated. Made some great looking saves, mainly due to spilling a cross, being out of position, or just pushing it away when he should've held it.

Shaka
Martinez
Marcus
McCarthy
Federici
Rafael
Al Habsi

Says the man rating Mr Camera save, but dives over the ball, fluffs it at the near post and can't reach his bottom corners Flapperici higher.

Al-Habsi dropped a change against us, two or three early changers for us and then was immense.
