Rumour - Umaro Embalo and Goncalo Borges

by morganb » 04 Oct 2020 19:46

Lumping these together in one post for now - For those of you not on Twitter, that man Eddie saying:

https://mobile.twitter.com/EddieRFC7/st ... 1465937920

I’m told it’s been a busy day at #ReadingFC. Apparently the club are putting offers on the table for multiple players, a bit of a panic with one day left internationally. Umaro Embalo and Goncalo Borges are both on the list of wingers mentioned earlier.

Think it's smart trying to bring in talented youngsters who won't have any expectations of starting every game. Bulls up the squad without rocking the boat.

Isn’t Umaro Embalo the president of Guinea-Bissau?

Almost as good as Danny Loader's U23 highlights reel.

Accompanied by shit, generic EDM. Its a no from me.

Apparently Man Utd had a £4m bid for Embalo rejected in 2017 when he was 16

A year later Leipzig had a £20m offer accepted only for the agent to get him to turn it down.

Portuguese media have picked up on Borges but insist nothing has been finalised. Nothing on Embalo. Exclusives has heard nothing about either, although perhaps as it is deadline day they stress it doesn’t mean it won’t happen.

According to ya man Eddie: #ReadingFC ‘s talks with Benfica over Umaro Embalo have broken down, they wanted guaranteed first team football for the winger; not something we could offer.

Good to see we're not guaranteeing anyone a start.

Eddie continues:

Reading are doing everything possible to sign a winger before 11 tonight. There are about 4 names left on the list. A new winger, who plays for sporting has emerged as a key target, along with Goncalo.

Bruno Tavares and Elvis Balde are believed to be on the list

Are Reading working their way through the Guinea-Bissau young players’ directory?

I remember under Steve Clarke, we signed every reserve winger in Iberia on deadline day and what a crock of shite that season was.

Eddie says Borges deal is off over future fee dispute.

I honestly wouldn't mind not signing a winger. With Ejaria Olise Meite + motivated Aluko we aren't short of options. GP and Baldock as panic options, sounds like Esteves could be pushed up to wing as well. Like Pauno said, we shouldn't sign players for the sake of it.

We also shouldn’t sign players for over the odds. Still time to bring in a winger over the next week or so. We have two additions in the past couple of days so the squad should be fine for the Boro game.

Jacob Murphy on loan from Newcastle potentially? Always been a good player at this level

Personally thought Meite & Olise played very well as the wide options last week - you don’t need out and out wingers to be successful at the level necessarily. Aluko is also a backup option from the bench.

Think Bruce has said Murphy won't be going out on loan. Atsu could be a good shout.

Looking around our best options are Anthony Gordon or Ian Poveda. Having a feeling we’ll be looking at a free agent going off that.

Nathan Broadhead or Josh Bowler might not be a bad shout from Everton. Both played well for Burton and Hull respectively last year.
Andre Green is another who is a free agent but there maybe severance cost from Villa.
