Snowball A "buyers' market" suggests that due to current circumstances sellers MUST sell
and therefore buyers can low-ball.

But we already know that (unless you're in a fire-sale) a low-ball offer might
make you reconsider and hang on to your assets.

So it's a two-way thing. Buyer's may get greedy but sellers might think
it's better to hang on to the asset.

And let's not forget that if indeed prices are down buy (say 30%) RFC
will benefit if it goes into the market as a buyer.

But going back to the first paragraph. We are all presuming that Fair Play
pressure is going to force us to sell our best assets. If it becomes public
knowledge that the league says we have to ship out, cut wages etc (IF)
then obviously our disadvantage is increased.

The last couple of seasons, so far at RDG we haven't seen forced-sales and asset-stripping. In fact the opposite

Thanks snowball, at least someone got it.

Yeah but all the above doesn't mean its not a buyers market :| if clubs decide to hang on to the talent instead of selling on cheap doesn't negate the fact it's still a buyers market. I really depend on how much you need to sell, what the selling clubs finances are like. you specifically said 'I'm not so sure it is a buyer's market.' If we have to sell our best talents to balance the books like most of the championship i assume, then we are at the mercy of what the buying club is prepared to pay. And the big transfer money gravy train has sailed ( It's an aqua train)

If FFP isn't a big issue then I think we would hang-on for £15m for Olise. That's peanuts for PL clubs for the the league's best young player. And you'd have to assume that there are at least couple of PL clubs will be interested.

Finances will start bouncing back as fans return. So particularly for those players on longer contracts, it may well be worth the selling club holding out for a price they want, in which case the buying club can't buy unless the seller is willing to sell at that price.

As for us, we know our owners turn down good money for star players, which means it really isn't a buyers market for the likes of Olise if that continues to hold true.

Clubs looking to buy aren't simply going to be able to offer a pittance, they'll still have to meet some semblance of a club's valuation as they aren't going to be required to sell for the most part.

Could easily see not much movement.

What's more valuable to Reading? 40 games from Olise and another 15 to 20 goal contributions and leave for nothing next year, or £5m to £8m now?

Former IMO.

very difficult to make a guess on that isnt it? Injury, loss of form, head being turned knowing he is leaving (Richards didn't seem to be the same player post Bayern - though obvs thats a little bit subjective)

Really does depend on what the state of our finances actually means in terms of FFP. If the owners can just write the 5-8m off as loose change to them, and it doesn't restrict the club making other transfers/comtracts then yeah. If that 5m to 8m means we can offer McIntyre, Rino and Laurent a nice new contract then take the money

A fair old list of clubs mentioned, Lille being the latest-

Reading star Olise is one of the most highly-rated young wingers in Europe. Indeed, the French star has a number of clubs chasing his signature, including Bayern Munich as previously revealed. Chelsea, Arsenal and Leeds are also among those keeping tabs on him.

After Reading’s failure to maintain their play-off push this season, Hammersmith-born Olise will now leave the Madeski. And we can reveal that Lille are very firmly in the chase for the 19-year-old.

If Olise is rated as one of the best wingers in Europe how highly is he rated in his actual position

Also interesting that he's now "Hammersmith-born". I thought a couple of years ago that I'd found a birth record for him in London, but recently some websites had said French Guiana. Most sites don't mention his place of birth.

I've seen a couple of recent articles saying he was born in Paris although I asume that was lazy research from a shit journalist.

I'm going for born in London but one of his parents born in French Guyana

From the bits and pieces I’ve seen on Michael, he was born in England and is thus eligible for England.

He has a Nigerian father and is thus eligible for Nigeria.

His mother is Algerian and therefore he is also thus eligible for both Algeria and France.

Some media outlets now saying Reading value him at £30m  8) while the “he has an £8m release clause” tract seems to now have completely disappeared from all areas so presume that was the cobblers that most of us thought it was.

The standard for young players with high potential is already set so we should be expecting a good fee even though he only has 1 year left on his contract.

Given most of his professional games have been on the wing, it's fair to say he's a winger. Even if he can actually play anywhere across the pitch in attack behind the front man, and we think he's more comfortable and effective in behind centrally.

Well hopefully the £8m release clause is rubbish and there are a number of clubs bidding against each other for him.

I think that £20m is a perfectly possible. If at least two clubs are really keen on him it could get up towards £30m, but unlikely.

There seems to be plenty of interest in him so hopefully we see a bidding war commence and close to £20m

Absolute worst case scenario would be Dai refusing to sell, screwing us over with FFP, Olise spending the season completely disinterested, and then leaving for free next summer.

Knowing Dai, it’ll be the latter

Don’t think he has ever played as a winger for us.
Playing as the wide man of a three does not equate to being a winger.

Chatting to a couple of the players on Sat, and they're expecting him to still be here next season. Which, unless he signs a new contract, is pretty bad news.
