Rumour - Izzy Brown

by Sutekh » 03 Jan 2021 12:02

Apparently.

https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/black ... ea-player/

For those who don’t know anything about Mr Brown, he is a 23 year old (he’s actually 24 on 7th January) attacking midfielder (who prefers the proverbial “no. 10” role) currently on Chelsea’s books.

As is common with Chelsea’s youngsters he’s made a grand total of 1 appearance for them in 7 years while spending his time on loan at Vitesse Arnhem, Rotherham, Huddersfield, Brighton, Leeds, Luton and, currently, Sheffield Wednesday. He has a career total of 10 goals in 127 apps.

Not sure there is an obvious way he’d be guaranteed much game time for us is there ? Not if the current squad are all available....

Always thought he’d end up here at some point

He does seem to be getting gradually worse though - was outstanding for Huddersfield a few years back

Is a CAM what we need?! Would much rather see a player in the mould of Lewis Baker if we are raiding Chelsea for loans again.

Rino / Laurent cover is hopefully the priority

Better than Aluko I'd say, but certainly not an upgrade on our 1st XI. Maybe could push Ejaria more too.

Agree cover for Rinomhota and Laurent would be useful; they're almost as important to our team as Joao.

and if it’s one of the two teams linked to him that he ends up at then Reading seem a safer bet than Blackburn due to the Lancashire side’s abundance of attacking talent already.

Brown looked like a good player a few years ago, and Baker came to us at a similar stage in his career (string of unsuccessful Championship loans and now aged 23). We’d just need Solanke to complete the trio Mourinho said would be England internationals...

Dominic Solanke did become an England International.

I think we'll put him in the Martin Kelly file.

Looking at it briefly I think he’s a very good player, did very well at Huddersfield and Luton although he struggled at Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds as he was constantly injured. Unfortunately injuries are probably stopping him from becoming a top end championship player but these are the sort of signings that seem to work for us. Look at Ejaria, took him a few games to get going but fast forward two years he’s worth millions.

However, why do those signings work? They work as they are given a run of games. Will Izzy Brown have that luxury? I don’t think so, especially given his injury record even if we wanted to. Unless it’s a permanent deal on a two year contract I’d stay well away.

Yeh because midfield is where we need more players.

Tie it in with Semedo perhaps going back though and it makes more sense.
May even be a perm which could be cheaper than the current loan arrangement.

Then there’s the Olise situation. If Olise does go and doesn’t come back on loan Reading will need an additional body in there esp given the injury record so far this season.

We do have Araruna coming back to fitness this month. And i belive Defensive Midfied is his specalised position, so would be back up to cover Laurent and Rinhomota if they get injured.

He's never looked anything like a DM to me. Clearly a RB

He's played 55 minutes there (against the best side in the league), difficult to make a judgement based on that
