Whilst the much of the standard of MLS probably is only League 1/Championship level, there are still some extremely good players in the league. Almiron hasn't been a complete disaster in the PL and would've done much better in a team that plays to his strengths - that actually includes us now! I also think VP would bite your hand off if you offered him Josef Martinez (unfortunately he doesn't appear to want to come to Europe which is probably the reason he hasn't been snapped up by a big team in the PL) and each team will have a couple of real stand-out players who would also likely be stars in the Championship.

Winston Biscuit one of the local journos said it would make him the most expensive player out of the MLS. Almiron went to Newcastle from the MLS for about £20M

Yep £21M or $27M seem to be the figures commonly quoted.

No doubt in my mind that the best players of the mls would shine in the champ and do well in lower order of the PL. But people have been saying he is THE best, now if that’s true I’m amazed he would want to come here. But anyway, the rumour is probably just made up bollox.

So if we can pay a €1m loan fee why can't we offer Omar and McIntyre contracts spread over 3 or more years??

We can.
Whether they accept them is a different matter.

Been described as a stud, so probably wants to challenge himself to be the biggest stud in a team full of studs.

Thats gonna be a tough challenge. As tough as any challenge a man could set himself. This team is a wall to wall stud factory.

He's never going to do it. Only a 30 year old Darren Caskey could be anywhere close. Or possibly a Paul Holsgrove.

Who's to say we aren't still negotiating terms and just haven't come to an agreement? If the Bayern rumours were true, maybe Omar has no interest in signing a contract.

Timing is tight if we are going to pull this off (assuming there is any mileage in the rumour). It will probably work in our favour that VP doubtless has lots of good contacts in MLS and may well already be known to Rossi. He is also well placed to talk the player through the differences and commonalities between the two leagues and answer any questions he might have about such a switch.

As a loan to buy he sounds like a great, and relatively safe signing option.

Sounds like he could compete with Ejaria on the left or potentially add a new dimension partnering Joao, maybe off the bench, or pose a different question to Joao late on off the bench.

Seems a bit out of the blue and unlikely though

So all of a sudden we have 10 million euros to spend?

And on what.. yet another midfielder?

Ok so we're crying out for wingers I get that, but I hope we can get a backup target man too.

Nah, not having that. MLS has improved so much in the last few years.

Certainly some very outdated opinions on the standard of the MLS these days. It's a long way from the retirement league that Beckham moved to for big fanfare. Its much more technical and the vast majority of teams try to play in the modern possession heavy style.

There has been huge investment into the game - the facilities for many of the clubs rival or exceed a lot of those in Europe, and while the coaching credentials may be lacking, the infrastructure for young players is excellent. The US first team (as a proxy for the strength of the system itself) now has first team players at Chelsea, Juventus, Barcelona, Dortmund, Valencia, Leipzig and youngers at Man City, Leicester, Lille, Werder Bremen... Quite a few of them were snapped up by those major clubs directly from the US team academy, who must be considered to have some pedigree...

Very telling that an all MLS and very young US men's team thrashed perennial WC qualification rivals Trinidad & Tobago 7-0 the other day. A 20 year old debutant in that game (Daryl Dike) has just moved to Barnsley who have had a good record of discovering hidden gems from unfashionable markets in recent years. Likewise, Swansea have just loaned Jordan Morris who has been a good player at Seattle in recent years.

So to that extent, Diego Rossi joining a club outside of the top-5 leagues would be pretty surprising which is why the update saying it's unlikely makes a lot of sense.

Very definitely. Starting to get some very good home grown products coming through too.

It's also interesting that some of the British players who fall out of the academy system here end up in the US playing in NCAA. After their 4 year stint some look pretty good. I reckon players like that are worth looking out for and possibly bringing home. Maybe that will happen now through VPs' connections the other side of the pond.
