Winston Biscuit A lot of teams reportedly in for Michael Cooper of Plymouth with some sizable offers being suggested

Given we are unlikely to be able to spend a penny this year, unless we sell, I think we can move on from this one.

Would be keen but he lives up in Warwick and doubt he’d be keen to do the daily commute through Reading for training

Expect he’ll end up at wba, Coventry or Brum

Yeah he loves it around there, but then he stuck it at Watford for a few years. You never know.

I wonder if Freddie Woodman of Newcastle might be available.

He went on loan to Bournemouth for part of last season after Nyland wasn't considered good enough and was moved on.
He had a good loan spell at Swansea and I doubt that he would go back to Bournemouth as the no.3 keeper bearing in mind that they are looking at bringing somebody in as competition for Mark Travers rather than just as back-up.

Reports suggesting Luke Southwood has been told to find a new club. With Nyland leaving, obviously seems Ince isn't happy with the goalkeeper situation.

Nor should he be, neither of them are what we need right now. I think Southwood could be in time but not yet. He should find a new club and rebuild his confidence and be the clear number 1, he will do really well in League 1 or 2.

Got a feeling Ince will be after a vastly experienced number 1 who can marshall a defence. When you consider that McIntrye and Holmes could be our CB pairing for next season I think they need a strong presence behind them.

Yeah seems sensible, I thought a loan may have been better for Southwood but I suppose a permanent move with an option to buy him back and/or a percentage of next sale would be sensible business from the club. He had a good spell when he came in, then he fell away massively and lost his place. Not massively surprised he won't be here, but didn't expect him to be told to find a new club.

Alex Smithies would be a good option for an experienced GK between the sticks.

Yep no problem with Southwood leaving as well - would be nice if we can get a small fee to boot.

With players being told to leave, looking like being sold can only imagine there is a level of confidence that incomings must be due shortly.

Yeah true. They may not all get announced before the departures, as I can imagine we are in for a few players who have contracts running out at the end of June. There was a Portuguese goalkeeper who we were linked with whose contract was out at the end of June, I can't remember his name of who he played for without looking haha.

Either that or Ince has been told players must leave before he can buy......

This for me is the most critical appointment.

We had how many.. 4(?) keepers last season who were all frankly shite/ below average at best.

A GOOD keeper, even if that's where the bulk of our wage allowance goes will be the difference between Ince keeping his job or not I reckon.

I would say that is impossible given we can't actually field a matchday squad.

I don't think we need to be that over the top with it, just a good, solid Championship goalkeeper will do.

I think your supposition is the more likely Stranded; but not knowing exactly what constraints he is under due to our financial situation, anything is possible.

Shame but I was unconvinced by him last season so not entirely surprised, think at 24 I would have expected a bit more from him but then given the utter shambles masquerading as a defence in front of him and the overall inadequacies of the management the decision might be seen as a tad harsh.

However I agree totally that Reading cannot afford a “luxury” of rookie keeper with the “god knows what” that will be playing outfield so he’d only be a no.2 at best and Reading still have 2 supposedly excellent youngsters in that department to call on as a no. 2 already.

Sam Johnstone’s out of contract
