Hound Finding myself agree with Ian far too much these days but yeah that

Good player, Great athlete but positional discipline was all over the place and gave the ball away too much

Just maximising his income....if he moves on a free he pockets more money, due to the inflated signing on fee as the signing club doesn't have to pay a transfer fee. Can't blame him for that, it's a relatively short career.
